Testament of a Woman Refugee
Logan, a young Canadian priest, finds himself in Jangaland, an African country in the throes of post-independence violence. His friendly relationship with the family of a rebel leader does not endear him to the ruling administration. He is thrown out of the country. Even before he leaves, the leader and his wife are killed. The rebel's daughter, Zinga, miraculously survives the extermination plot and ends up in an orphanage where his true identity is concealed. When she comes of age, she bears a stunning resemblance to her mother. With her life in danger, and aided by family friends who reveal her true identity, she escapes from the country. Now a refugee, her tribulations are just beginning. She is exploited by an immigration official, reduced into a sex slave by a rebel force. She survives and is eventually joined by her husband who was in Jangaland. Plans to make a fresh start are botched. Drug dealers kill her husband. She is despondent but a miracle occurs. Logan traces her whereabouts and it is in Canada that she recounts her story to a psychiatrist.
Tao Te Jing in Plain English
The Tao Te Ching is one of the more popularly translated texts of all historical Chinese writings. Despite the many efforts that have gone into studying and translating Lao Tzus works, it is still remains very difficult to understand, even to native readers. Therefore, only those who fully comprehend the text can translate it properly. This version opts to give as accurate of a translation in as plain of English as possible. Since our goal is to bring a comprehendible Tao Te Ching to our readers, we decided against conforming to any sort of poetic forms. Although we used the same original text as some of the other translators, there are some notable differences in our interpretations, such as in Chapters One and Twenty. In order to better allow our readers to understand the text, this translation also compares Lao Tzus ideas with other great thinkers, such as Einstein and Napoleon.
The Buddhist I Ching

Daode Jing
Poetry. Translated from the Chinese by Thomas Meyer. In an unbroken flow of couplets, Thomas Meyer's translation of the DAODE JING (or Tao-Te Ching) captures the supple thought of this ancient Chinese text: "best to be like water / always useful / never difficult / settling in low-lying places..." Here, the insights of Laozi are rendered as conversational rather than scholarly, intimate rather than formal. As Meyer explains in his afterword, "The DAODE JING is table talk. An old man, not holding forth really, but just telling someone what he knows. After dinner, the dishes pushed aside, a glass of whiskey, a cigarette. Or a pub and a pint of beer, even." Tao Te Ching
This version of the Tao Te Ching presents the classic in a unique light, through the eyes of a renowned master of the Rinzai Zen tradition. Takuan Soho, who lived from 1573 to 1645, was an acerbic, witty, free spirit who; a painter, poet, author, calligrapher, gardener, and a tea master. He was also a confidante and teacher to shoguns and many other powerful and famous figures, among them the the famed swordsman Yagyu Munenori, and (according to legend) Miyamoto Musashi. True to the teachings of the Tao Te Ching itself, as well as to the tradition of Zen, Takuan draws from everyday experience and common sense, to reveal the basic sanity of nature and the inherent wholeness of life. Takuan reveals how the Tao Te Ching applies to a wide range of concerns, including health, personal relationships, and individual lifestyle. He interprets the text through a philosophical and psychological lens, and also elucidates its radical social and political concepts.
