Boron Hydride Chemistry covers the significant contributions of boron hydride research in the subjects of bonding, structure, and stereochemistry. This book contains 12 chapters that illustrate the merging of certain areas of boron hydride chemistry with other disciplines, such as organic, organometallic, and transition metal chemistry. After providing an overview of the general geometric, stereochemical, and dynamic stereochemical features of boron hydrides, this book goes on exploring the bonding theory and theoretical research on boron hydrides, with an emphasis on boron hydrides that have open polyhedral structures. These topics are followed by discussions on gas phase and solution reactions of borane and substituted boranes. A chapter focuses on the chemistry of cations containing boron atoms bonded to hydrogen. The remaining chapters examine the syntheses, structures, bonding, spectral properties, and chemistry of specific boron hydrides, including borazines, closo-boron hydrides, carboranes, icosahedral carboranes, and close- and nido-heteroboranes. Inorganic chemists and researchers, teachers, and undergraduate inorganic chemistry students will find this book invaluable.

The Organic Chemistry of Iron, Volume 1 covers the structures and bonding and the applications of a variety of physical techniques to organo-iron compounds, optically active compounds, as well as chapters on ?-bonded, ?2-, ?3-, and ?4-organo-iron compounds. The book discusses the structure and bonding in organic iron compounds; NMR spectroscopy of organoiron compounds; and mass spectra. The text also describes Mössbauer spectroscopy; magnetic properties; electron paramagnetic resonance; and optical activity of iron. Compounds with iron-carbon?-bonds; monoolefin iron complexes; allyl iron complexes; and diene iron complexes are also considered. The stabilization of unstable species with carbonyliron is also encompassed.

Organometallic Compounds and Living Organisms provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of organometallic compounds and living organisms. This book discusses the biological effects of organometallic compounds. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the recognition of methylmercuric compounds as the causative agents of Minamata disease, which has generated intensive research of their toxic effects. This text then examines the number of investigative applications of the biological inertness of silicones. Other chapters consider the capacity of many organometals to deactivate enzymes, which makes these compounds very useful for studying the nature of the enzyme active site. This book discusses as well the use and preparation of organometallurium compounds as imaging agents. The final chapter deals with the formation and cleavage of metal(loid)–carbon bonds, which play significant roles in the environmental transformation and circulation of metal(loids). This book is a valuable resource for chemists.

B Boron Compounds

The 3rd supplement continues the updating of the original 20 volumes on boron compounds published between 1974 and 1979. The first supplement consisting of 3 volumes covered all the literature uniformly up to the end of 1977, whereas the two volumes of the 2nd supplement have extended the literature coverage of boron compounds to 1980 and the four volumes of the 3rd supplement to 1984. The present volume continues the description of boron compounds with halogens, presenting those with chlorine, bromine and iodine. The compounds with chalcogens are completed here along with those of boron with S, Se, Te and Po. The final chapter on carboranes contains the carboranes themselves, together with metallacarboranes, and in the last section a description of carborane-containing polymers, mostly derived from the three isomeric dicarbadodecarboranes. Volume 4 of the 3rd supplement brings this supplement series to an end. It will be supplemented by a separately appearing index volume, which contains all the boron compounds dealt with in volumes 1 - 4 of this supplement series.

The first supplement volume eomplements the 20 volumes on boron eompounds (Borverbin dungen) that have been published within the New Supplement Series (Erg.-Werk) of the eighth edition of the Gmelin Handbook by uniformly updating the literature eoverage to the end of 1977. However, the deseription in this supplement volume follows largely the Gmelin prineiple of the last position. The systems boron-hydrogen and boron-oxygen were presented in the first part, the systems boron-nitrogen and boron-halogens in the seeond part. This third and final part eontains the systems boron-ehaleogens and also earboranes as weil as a formula index for the three parts of the first supplement volume. Besides t...
