Fans
Fans sind ein weit verbreitetes und vielfältiges Phänomen: Menschen sind Fans von Fußballvereinen, Musikern, Filmstars, Automarken, Buchfiguren und vielen anderen Dingen. Es gibt Fans in verschiedenen Altersgruppen und Schichten. Dieser Band legt erstmals eine umfassende Soziologie der Fans vor. Die hier versammelten Beiträge wenden soziologische Theorieperspektiven und empirische Instrumentarien auf Fans und Fantum an. Sie analysieren Fans hinsichtlich ihrer spezifischen Emotionalität, ihrer Kultur und Lebensführung, ihrer Sozialisation und Sozialstruktur, ihres Konsumverhaltens, ihrer Mediennutzung und ihrer politischen Partizipation. Thematisiert werden außerdem die internen Abgrenzungen in Fan-Szenen, Fragen der Migration und Globalisierung von Fans, Geschlechterkonstruktionen in Fan-Gemeinschaften sowie die Geschichte des Fantums.
Die Geschichte der Fans
Zwar ist erst zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts explizit von Fans die Rede. Doch schon lange davor lassen sich Beispiele finden, die aus heutiger Sicht ebenfalls als Fantum bezeichnet werden können. Thomas Schmidt-Lux beschreibt diese Entwicklung von Fans und Fanobjekten seit der Antike. Abschließend fragt er danach, ob sich im Laufe dieser Geschichte – etwa durch den Medienwandel – systematische Veränderungen von Fans und Fantum feststellen lassen.
Kultursoziologische Stadtforschung
Dieser Band formuliert die Grundlagen einer kultursoziologisch konzipierten Stadtforschung. Dabei steht die Frage im Zentrum, wie eine kulturwissenschaftliche Sicht auf Städte dabei helfen kann, klassische Fragen der Stadtsoziologie neu zu beantworten. Durch den Fokus ihrer Analyse auf zentrale kulturelle Strukturkategorien wie Geschlecht, Klasse und race gelingt es den Autor_innen, die soziologische Debatte zum Thema Stadt um eine feministische und postkoloniale Perspektive zu erweitern. Architekturen und Artefakte
In der Soziologie ist seit längerer Zeit ein zunehmendes Interesse an Architektur und Artefakten beobachtbar. Dabei wird daran erinnert, dass nicht nur immaterielle Zeichen, Symbole und Repräsentationen des Sozialen existieren, sondern auch Orte, Stoffe und Dinge. Diesen wird eine wichtige Rolle im sozialen Geschehen zugesprochen: Materiales erscheint als Träger von Erinnerungskulturen, als sozialer Akteur, Heilsvermittler, Medium von Repräsentation – kurz: als Bedingung, Beschränkung und Instrument sozialer Praxis. Dies gilt auch in Bezug auf Religion. Dennoch hat die Perspektive noch kaum Eingang in die deutschsprachige Religionssoziologie gefunden. Dieser Band soll daher Anstoß sein für die Öffnung der Religionssoziologie in Richtung einer Soziologie des Materialen.
Verstehen als Zugang zur Welt
Verstehen ist ein zentrales Konzept der Soziologie. Es zielt auf das Entschlüsseln von sozialem Sinn – wo auch immer dieser stecken mag. Seine Grundsätzlichkeit und thematische Offenheit machen dieses Konzept attraktiv und in vielerlei Hinsicht anschlussfähig. Immer wieder neu muss jedoch diskutiert werden, wie soziologisches Verstehen funktioniert, worauf es sich beziehen soll und wo seine Grenzen liegen. Dieser Band versammelt unterschiedliche aktuelle Antworten und Perspektiven auf diese Fragen. Imprisoned Religion
This book explores the profound transformations that prisons and offender rehabilitation programmes in Eastern Germany have undergone with respect to religion. Drawing on participant observation and interviews of inmates, ex-prisoners, chaplains and prison visitors, this book connects the institutional to individual: focusing on the religious changes individuals experience when they are imprisoned and released. Including comparative studies from Italy and Switzerland, Becci reveals that despite diverse local, historical, denominational, political and social contexts the transformation patterns of individuals' relationship to religion, and their use of religious resources, are strongly shaped by the total character of prisons. Becci also explores the difficulties faced by released people in keeping their religious life alive under the harsh conditions of social stigma in a highly secular outside society.
