Grievances and Public Protests
This book sheds light on the role that grievances play for mobilisation dynamics in a context of material deprivation. Why do people protest? To what extent do grievances account for the varying size of protest events over time? Covering different levels of analysis, the author argues that effects of socioeconomic aspects (both objective-material deprivation and subjective-attitudinal grievances) are mediated by political attitudes, especially political dissatisfaction. He develops a framework to account for the dynamics, trajectory and timing of the cycle of contention that unfolded in Spain in the shadow of the Great Recession, contributing not only to the field of social movement studies but to our broader understanding of European politics, political sociology, political economy and economic sociology.

Ethnic Dignity and the Ulster-Scots Movement in Northern Ireland
In this book, Peter Gardner contends that the production of narratives of ethnic peoplehood is an attempt to regain a sense of collective dignity among the previously dominant. After introducing the concept of ethnic dignity and locating its place within postconflict identity politics, Gardner focuses his analysis on the Ulster- Scots story of peoplehood. Drawing on a wealth of primary data, the chapters explore a variety of core issues including ethnopolitics, social class, political-economic ideology, colonialism, and heteromasculinity. The book concludes by taking a global view of post-conflict ethnic dignity among the once dominant, analysing the New Afrikaans movement in South Africa, white pride and ethnic whiteness studies, and Maronite Phoenicianism in Lebanon. Fishes of the Fitzcarrald, Peruvian Amazon
The Peruvian Amazon has one of the highest concentrations of aquatic biodiversity in the world, with almost 1,000 fish species currently known, and more described every year. This book shows 502 images representing 274 fish species from the Alto Purús National Park, a remote wilderness area located in the Fitzcarrald region of southeastern Peru. Species richness - the number of distinct evolutionary lineages - is a fundamental measure of overall biodiversity. Species are basic structural and functional units of ecology and evolution. Accurate species identification is necessary to document genetic, physiological, and ecological aspects of biodiversity. Recognizing and naming species matters, no matter how subtle the differences may seem to the human eye. This book provides the most complete record of fish diversity in the Fitzcarrald region to date, and will be useful to ichthyologists, ecologists, biogogeographers, and aquatic resource managers working throughout greater Amazonia.
