The purpose of the BIAS is, year by year, to draw attention to all scholarly books and articles directly concerned with the matière de Bretagne. The bibliography aims to include all books, reviews and articles published in the year preceding its appearance, an exception being made for earlier studies which have been omitted inadvertently. The present volume contains over 700 entries on relevant publications that were published in 2013.
Diplomatische Kompetenzen und Geschlecht
Die typische Vorstellung vom Mittelalter in populärkulturellen Romanen, Fernsehserien und Computerspielen ist geprägt von Gewalt und Krieg. Dass das Klischee vom blutrünstigen und gewalttätigen Mittelalter relativiert werden kann, zeigt die Dissertation aufbauend auf der historisch-mediävistischen Konflikt- und Friedensforschung. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht anhand der höfischen Romane die narrativ dargestellten Strategien der Konfliktlösung und Friedensstiftung und knüpft dabei an gender-theoretische Ansätze an. Die Studie beleuchtet zum einen geschlechtsspezifische Rollenerwartungen, -möglichkeiten und -grenzen bei Konfliktlösungshandeln. Zum anderen zielt sie auf die Untersuchung dieser Faktoren in ihrem je spezifischen Kontext ab und greift die narratologische Perspektive für die Konstruktion von Weiblichkeit und Männlichkeit im diplomatischen Kontext auf. Dabei wird die Möglichkeit eröffnet, Einblicke in das Verhältnis von Gender und Konfliktlösungshandeln zu erhalten.

Gewalt, insbesondere nicht-hoheitlich verübte Gewalt, gilt häufig als regellos und irrational. Die neuere Gewaltforschung hat allerdings wiederholt auf Logiken und Regeln hingewiesen, welche der Gewalt als einer Form der nonverbalen Kommunikation inhärent sind. Dies gilt in erhöhtem Maße für kollektiv verübte Gewalt, die nicht zuletzt aufgrund ihrer Regelhaftigkeit (Gewalt-)Gemeinschaften zu konstituieren und zu sichern vermag, die sich ihrerseits gegen externe Regeln und Normen stellen.
