The Tin Cookie Cutter

Those who've spent time with the elderly Amish woman realize the wisdom in her words. One could say Catherine's kitchen is her office. Baking cookies is her form of therapy. Christmas wreaths, nailed to the porch of the Amish home, attract the eye of photographer Claire Ryan. Knocking on the door, she plans on asking permission to take some photos and then be on her way. But once inside, sitting in the warmth of that home with paper angels on strings and pine boughs decorating the mantel, Claire relaxes, eventually telling Catherine why she's about given up on finding love and no longer bothers with Christmas. Soon they're in the kitchen getting ready to make cookies. When Catherine brings out a wooden box holding old tin cookie cutters, Claire notices one is missing. The cookie cutter is found weeks later -- and it has nothing to do with making cookies.

At home it is a constant struggle for Drake McCreiess to keep his war experience and personal tragedies in perspective. Drake McCreiess is trapped by societal regulations and he knows he is better than those that created the rules. He is a good man who has the capability to be violent. His captors will use his violent capabilities to carry out a professed justice for those they feel walk the streets with impunity after creating so much criminal mischief. McCreiess will set himself free, but first he will have to confront the demons created by war, and then the friends and powerful people that ensnared him in such a secret and wicked association.

In the right hands, cosmetic or plastic surgery can become a work of beauty and a tremendous boost to a person’s self-esteem. In the wrong hands, cosmetic surgery can become a powerful force to destroy one’s self-esteem and any trace of confidence a person may have in the very core of his or her soul. In The Ultimate Violation, author Kurtess Lief Scone tells the story of his life—his time suffering from rickets as a young boy; his adolescence; the role his relationship to Jesus Christ has played in his life; and his adulthood, during which, disliking his facial appearance, he underwent plastic surgery. In this memoir, he discusses the malpractice of his surgeon and being forced to deal with the negative consequences followed by mental and emotional issues related to abnormal cosmetic changes. Scone provides tools and strategies to help others find the right cosmetic surgeon. The Ultimate Violation details Scone’s journey to seek justice and overcome the embarrassment, shame, and humiliation he experienced at the hands of an unethical surgeon.

He became a star overnight as surly, sexy, usually shirtless Kovac in Hitchcock's Lifeboat (1944). Handsome and personable, John Hodiak (1914-1955) embraced his heritage as the son of Polish-Ukrainian immigrants, making him a rare Golden Age actor whose true ethnicity (and birth name) were widely known by moviegoers. Starting in radio, Hodiak was brought to Hollywood by MGM, starring in films like A Bell for Adano (1945) and The Harvey Girls (1946). In making Sunday Dinner for a Soldier (1944), he and co-star Anne Baxter fell in love despite divergent backgrounds and wed after a tumultuous courtship. The 1950s saw the breakdown of his marriage but also new professional opportunities, notably...

The early years of television relied in part on successful narratives of another medium, as studios adapted radio programs like Boston Blackie and Defense Attorney to the small screen. Many shows were adapted more than once, like the radio program Blondie, which inspired six television adaptations and 28 theatrical films. These are but a few of the 1,164 programs covered in this volume. Each program entry contains a detailed story line, years of broadcast, performer and character casts and principal production credits where possible. Two appendices ("Almost a Transition" and "Television to Radio") and a performer's index conclude the book. This first-of-its-kind encyclopedia covers many little-known programs that have rarely been discussed in print (e.g., Real George, based on Me and Janie; Volume One, based on Quiet, Please; and Galaxy, based on X Minus One). Covered programs include The Great Gildersleeve, Howdy Doody, My Friend Irma, My Little Margie, Space Patrol and Vic and Sade.
