Principles of High-Performance Processor Design

This book describes how we can design and make efficient processors for high-performance computing, AI, and data science. Although there are many textbooks on the design of processors we do not have a widely accepted definition of the efficiency of a general-purpose computer architecture. Without a definition of the efficiency, it is difficult to make scientific approach to the processor design. In this book, a clear definition of efficiency is given and thus a scientific approach for processor design is made possible. In chapter 2, the history of the development of high-performance processor is overviewed, to discuss what quantity we can use to measure the efficiency of these processors. Th...

Digital Holography: Applications and Emerging Technologies

With the rapid growth of computing and display technologies, digital holography (DH) has undergone significant advancement in the past two decades. Contemporary research works have enabled holography, a technology which is originally intended for displaying three-dimensional (3-D) images, to be deployed in numerous scientific, engineering, and bio-medical applications. Notably, digital holography has been incorporated into quite a number of contemporary applications, such as, but limited to holographic cryptography, optical metrology, remote sensing and inspection, and more recently, quantum computing. The success attained with DH so far does not limit its development to its current state-of...

Genealogies of Japanese Tsuba and Tôsô-kinkô Artists

The aim of this publication is to make the genealogies of the Japanese tsuba and tôsô-kinkô schools easily accessible to the reader, namely in that they are complete and have been revised for the first time, in a single book. The book contains 120 genealogies of all the major schools, divided up into two sections: the tankô who worked in iron, and the tôsô-kinkô who processed soft metal. For a better use of the genealogies, an extensive index is added at the end of the book.

Computer and Information Science 2010

The purpose of the 9th IEEE/ACIS International Conference on Computer and Information Science (ICIS 2010) was held on August 18-20, 2010 in Kaminoyama, Japan is to bring together scientist, engineers, computer users, students to share their experiences and exchange new ideas, and research results about all aspects (theory, applications and tools) of computer and information science, and to discuss the practical challenges encountered along the way and the solutions adopted to solve them The conference organizers selected the best 18 papers from those papers accepted for presentation at the conference in order to publish them in this volume. The papers were chosen based on review scores submitted by members of the program committee, and underwent further rigorous rounds of review.

The 20th century saw tremendous achievements and progress in science and technology. Undoubtedly, computers and computer-related technologies acted as one of vital catalysts for accelerating this progress in the latter half of the century. The contributions of mathematical sciences have been equally profound, and the synergy between mathematics and computer science has played a key role in accelerating the progress of both fields as well as science and engineering. Mathematical sciences will undoubtedly continue to play this vital role in this new century. In particular, mathematical modeling and numerical simulation will continue to be among the essential methodologies for solving massive a...

Computations, Glassy Materials, Microgravity and Non-Destructive Testing is a compilation of the papers presented during the Third IUMRS International Conference on Advanced Materials International Union of The Materials Research Societies that discussed the concepts and methods behind glassy materials. The book is divided into parts. Part 1 tackles the progresses in sol-gel science and technology; the reaction mechanisms of ormosils and effects of ultrasonic irradiation; and the preparation of different glasses and their properties. Part 2 covers topics such as the neural network system for the identification of materials; the use of computers for simulations of many-body systems; computer ...

The current rich volume of the Yearbook attempts to strike a balance in the multifaceted expressions of the increasing importance of private international law at national and supranational levels. The vitality of private international law within the European Union is evidenced by both legislative projects and the rich case law of the European Court of Justice. While the European Commission's draft for a Regulation on succession - which probably constitutes the most detailed and ambitious attempt ever to codify PIL in this area - begins its legislative process, a new initiative on the application of foreign law is being considered by the European institutions. Both of these developments are discussed in the Doctrine section. But the newest Yearbook of PIL also examines interesting developments taking place on other continents. For example, the present volume includes a special section focusing on Chinese PIL and reports on the renewed interest with conflict of laws in the U.S. doctrine.
