Contemporary human geography provides valuable insights into the political, social or cultural transformations of the world. Boom – Crisis – Heritage, these terms aptly outline the history of global coal mining after 1945. The essays collected in this volume explore this history with different emphases and questions. The range of topics also reflects this broad approach. The first section contains contributions on political, social and economic history. They address the European energy system in the globalised world of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as specific social policies in mining regions. The second section then focuses on the medialisation of mining and its legacies, also paying attention to the environmental history of mining. The anthology, which goes back to a conference of the same name at the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum, thus offers a multi-faceted insight into the research field of modern mining history.
De Facto States in Eurasia
This book explores the phenomenon of de facto states in Eurasia: states such as Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. It examines how they are formed, what sustains them, and how their differing development trajectories have unfolded. It argues that most of these de facto states have been formed with either direct or indirect support from Russia, but they all have their own internal logic and are not simply puppets in the hands of a powerful patron. The book provides detailed case studies and draws out general patterns, and compares present-day de facto states with de facto states which existed in the past.

Řecká emigrace v Československu (1948-1968)
Předkládaná historická studie seznamuje českého čtenáře s dosud málo probádanou problematikou - se vznikem a zformováním řecké emigrace v Československu. Soustřeďuje se především na sledování politického života emigrace, jež byla úzce spjata s Komunistickou stranou Řecka. Zvláštní důraz je pak v publikaci kladen na otázku zformování identity emigrantů v souvislosti s dopady dvou rozštěpení řeckých komunistů v době destalinizace a následně v době Pražského jara. Jednotlivá témata, např. otázka repatriace řeckých emigrantů, jsou přitom zkoumána v politické a socio-kulturní rovině v kontextu politického vývoje v Řecku a v Československu.
