Porous Silicon

Porous Silicon

Due to the recent discovery of the room-temperature visible light emission from porous silicon (P-Si), a great interest in P-Si and related materials has arisen in the last decade of the 20th century. Crystalline (c-) Si, at the heart of integrated circuits, has an indirect band gap of 1.1 eV, which limits its application in optoelectronics. The visible light emitting P-Si may open a new field combining Si integrated technology and optoelectronics. This book is a comprehensive review of the recent research and development of porous silicon. Strong visible photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) from P-Si and other forms of silicon nanocrystallites (nc-Si) are reviewed. Several proposed mechanisms for the PL from porous silicon such as quantum confinement, amorphicity and molecular PL are studied. The following issues are covered: mechanisms for the visible light emission, physical structures, studies of the PL and EL, correlation of structure and optical studies, surface physics and chemistry, relationships among various forms (P-Si, a-Si, µc-Si), device applications, future developments.

The Physics and Chemistry of SiO2 and the Si-SiO2 Interface 2

The first international symposium on the subject "The Physics and Chemistry of Si02 and the Si-Si02 Interface," organized in association with the Electrochemical Society, Inc. , was held in Atlanta, Georgia on May 15- 20, 1988. This symposium contained sixty papers and was so successful that the sponsoring divisions decided to schedule it on a regular basis every four years. Thus, the second symposium on "The Physics and Chemistry of Si02 and the Si02 Interface was held May 18-21, 1992 in St. Louis, Missouri, again sponsored by the Electronics and Dielectrics Science and Technology Divisions of The Electrochemical Society. This volume contains manuscripts of most of the fifty nine papers pre...

House In Virginia

Money is the root of all evil. It's the thirst and hunger for money that is the origin of the ills of this world. Its where our desperate thoughts and shameful actions are buried. Yet, when we are broke is when we have the most diabolical thoughts; when we are willing to break hearts, destroy relationships... and even ruin our own lives. Meet Karen Dunlap and Jovan "Jo" Saint: a young, loving couple living the way that many in their mid-twenties are in hoods of New Jersey. Karen is working a minimum wage job, while Jo hustles on the block with his right-hand, Pop. For the five years that Jo and Karen have been together, Karen has been by Jo's side no matter his struggle because she sees and ...

PAGES OF SOLITUDE

I wanted to write a book about the things that " move " me but wasn't sure where to start ...... I'm not really an author so you can see the problems I'm facing . Now this book is going to be a bit different , it may be messy at times but it will reflect the person I am and the things that make me who I am : wether it be good or bad . It's going to be filled with quotes , music lyrics , film and TV dialogue , poems and all the other stuff that keeps me active . I love discovering stuff that I can relate to , especially the things that make a bad day into a good one . Big thanks to all the people who I have sourced information from in order to compile this book ...... Your words inspire me . It’s all about smiles and cries.

Although there has been steady progress in understanding aspects of epitaxial growth throughout the last 30 years of modern surface science, work in this area has intensified greatly in the last 5 years. A number of factors have contributed to this expansion. One has been the general trend in surface science to tackle problems of increasing complexity as confidence is gained in the methodology, so for example, the role of oxide/metal interfaces in determining the properties of many practical supported catalysts is now being explored in greater detail. A second factor is the recognition of the potential importance of artificial multilayer materials not only in semiconductor devices but also i...

Nanostructured Materials

Nanostructured materials are one of the highest profile classes of materials in science and engineering today, and will continue to be well into the future. Potential applications are widely varied, including washing machine sensors, drug delivery devices to combat avian flu, and more efficient solar panels. Broad and multidisciplinary, the field includes multilayer films, atomic clusters, nanocrystalline materials, and nanocomposites having remarkable variations in fundamental electrical, optic, and magnetic properties.Nanostructured Materials: Processing, Properties and Applications, 2nd Edition is an extensive update to the exceptional first edition snapshot of this rapidly advancing field. Retaining the organization of the first edition, Part 1 covers the important synthesis and processing methods for the production of nanocrystalline materials. Part 2 focuses on selected properties of nanostructured materials. Potential or existing applications are described as appropriate throughout the book. The second edition has been updated throughout for the latest advances and includes two additional chapters.
