"In the autumn of 2017, Tyler Coburn and Adam Gibbons began a conversation about Ergonomic Futures, Coburn’s furniture for humans to come. What unfolded is a chimera: a hybrid, at once mythic and mundane, of a parasite, an institution, a brisk back-and-forth, a protracted exchange, a monster, a factory, two monologues, many emails — a text assembled amid births and passings, across countries and time zones, and in the minutes claimed between jobs." -- Backcover.

here 5 began with a proposition that Tyler Coburn write a speculative press release for an exhibition he would have enjoyed - but one that nevertheless did not exist. Where took the theme of Coburn's imagined exhibition and produced three experiments. For the first, Where opened its shipping container "to anyone, to do anything" from September 12 - October 12, 2014. For the second, Where initiated a handwritten letter campaign to established commercial galleries. For the third, Where organized a dinner at one such gallery, David Lewis, entirely comprised of edible parasites. The theme and speculations proposed in Coburn's press release were withheld until all experiments came to a close. The results of Where's findings, along with essays selected by Tyler Coburn and the initial prompt he wrote, are contained in this conclusive publication, Where 5.

The fictional memoir of a legal person--potentially everyone and actually no one. Richard Roe is the fictional memoir of a legal person. The name is one of the oldest used in English law when the real name of someone is withheld, or when a corpse can't be identified. Richard Roe is a known unknown, a one-size-fits-all, potentially everyone and actually no one. This memoir gives voice to the legal fictions that creep around the margins of selfhood, and draws on concepts of personhood from legal, psychological, linguistic, and metaphysical realms, including arguments from the last two centuries for the legal personhood of corporations, rivers, and other elements of the natural world.

Hal Foster, author of the acclaimed Design and Crime, argues that a fusion of architecture and art is a defining feature of contemporary culture. He identifies a "global style" of architecture-as practiced by Norman Foster, Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano-analogous to the international style of Le Corbusier, Gropius and Mies. More than any art, today's global style conveys both the dreams and delusions of modernity. Foster demonstrates that a study of the "art-architecture complex" provides invaluable insight into broader social and economic trajectories in urgent need of analysis.
