Teka and mama are sharing historic Black child bonding while taking down her braids. Teka must get this tedious task finished before she is allowed to go outside and fly kites with her friends who all wear Natural hair styles just like Teka. (Hold your head down, says Mama) is something often repeated when the hair is being styled. Tekas hair is kinky, coily, and soft to the touch and that's why she loves her natural Hair so much.
Teka is in VPK and learning many new things, such as her ABCs and Compound Words. Teka finds these things super exciting and is amazed at all the words she can put together to create compound words. Teka's teacher is teaching her to separate the two words, clap her hands, and put them together. Air/ Plane (claps her hands) Airplane, Butter/Fly (claps her hands) Butterfly." I love compound words" says Teka. Let's learn compound words along with Teka, as we discover how amazing it can be as we explore how putting two words together increases our vocabulary.
