Ülkemiz profesyonel müzik eğitiminde nitelikli bir bestecilik eğitimi verildiği bilinmekte ve kabul edilmektedir. Bununla birlikte; profesyonel, genel ve amatör müzik eğitimi için üretim yapanların sayısının oldukça az olduğu ve hatta böylesine bilgi ve beceriye sahip bestecilerin eğitim müziğiyle ilgilenmediği de yaygın bir görüş olarak karşımıza çıkar. Past and Present
When I was young, we used to play with all the other children. Our elderly neighbor would look at us with pleasure and laugh and say, "Come, children, I will tell you a fairy tale." She told us very interesting stories. Recently, I found out that these old woman's tales are not fairy tales but real historical events, which surprised me and led to the creation of this book. I will try to create an understanding of how it affected both the past and present. How do I know that these fairy tales were a real part of history? I had a conversation with a few historical witnesses when I came to America. Their grandfathers fought the invaders. They are the people who lived through the fighting. That’s why their children are now living in America.

A Changing Turkey
Turkey is a longstanding ally of the United States and Europe. After the demise of the Soviet empire, Turkey's strategic importance has changed but not diminished. Today Turkey is facing a completely different foreign and security policy environment. However, Turkey is also undergoing extraordinary internal change. Many established political truths of the Republic's seventy-five-year-long tradition are increasingly questioned by a growing part of its people. Above all, there is the rise of political Islam and the ensuing clash of ideologies between "secularists" and "Islamists" as well as the debate about Turkey's "Kurdish reality." Turkey's allies will have to respond to this development by adapting their policies. Nothing less than a re-evaluation and, eventually, a re-orientation in relations with both the United States and Europe is required if Turkey is to remain anchored in the West. This book undertakes a comprehensive overview and analysis of Turkey's internal and external changes and provides elements of a new European and American policy toward a key strategic partner.
