The higher education sector currently faces a series of challenges from internationalisation, inclusivity, financial cost and quality assurance. This book examines the church-founded model of higher education and argues that this is a promising approach for establishing greater levels of provision in the future, especially in developing countries. This book contains three case studies undertaken at church-founded universities in the UK, Kenya, and Nigeria, founded by church organisations but operating without denominational bias. These reveal that this model emphasises the wellbeing of their students over the pursuit of profit, and the delivery of relevant courses over easily marketed but unapplicable subjects. These studies culminate in a set of recommendations for good practice which will be of use to church leaders, policy makers and anyone concerned with widening participation in higher education.
