Once Mr. Darcy Promises

When Elizabeth Bennet meets Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, she learns he is engaged to be married to Miss Caroline Bingley. He seems devoted to his bride-to-be, quite attentive to her comfort and always willing to escort her to bed when she falls asleep early in the evenings, as she is wont to do. They are to be married in something of a rush, it seems, as soon as the banns are read. Which is why it’s monstrous that Mr. Darcy looks at Elizabeth in that way that he looks at her sometimes, or that Elizabeth feels an odd stirring towards him. Positively monstrous. Beneath them both. And there is nothing for it, after all. Once a gentleman gives his promise to a woman, he cannot break an engagement. I...

Forced to wear Anne’s old clothes and to answer to her name, Elizabeth does everything she can to escape from her prison, but Lady Catherine’s madness is impenetrable. When Mr. Darcy arrives to visit his aunt, Elizabeth tries to signal him from the tower window, and he sees her, but it is all for naught when he, too,...

Completely and Utterly Mr. Darcy's

When Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy barges half-dressed into the room where Miss Elizabeth Bennet is staying at Netherfield, apparently on the run from Miss Caroline Bingley’s attempt to engineer a compromise and trap him in a marriage, he claims to have compromised Elizabeth instead. Elizabeth is not pleased at this turn of events, considering that Mr. Darcy is the most arrogant and altogether worst man she has ever met. She’s particularly displeased at having her choices taken away and being obliged to become this man’s wife. Mr. Darcy’s ardent admiration of her is some consolation, however, and there is something to be said for the way he seems to be able to reduce her shivers with a look....

The Bewitchment of Mr. Darcy

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy was in an awful carriage accident in the fall of 1811, and he never made it to see his friend Mr. Bingley’s rented house in Hertfordshire. He was laid up all through the spring of the following year, and so it’s not until August, as she’s touring Pemberley with her aunt and uncle, that Mr. Darcy first sets eyes on Miss Elizabeth Bennet. He’s sopping wet from a dip in the lake, and he should be mortified, but she manages to ease a dreadful pain in his hand—a malady that lingers from the carriage accident. Her fingers on his wet palm are some kind of sorcery, and she’s beautiful and witty, and he begins to feel his danger immediately. But then she is called ho...

Mr. Darcy's Downfall

Her lips moved against his skin.“You’re awful. Everything about you is hateful.” “And you,” he said, breathless, “are the least proper woman in the history of England.” Miss Elizabeth Bennet’s father is on his deathbed, and his wife is desperate to marry off her five daughters. At the Meryton assembly, Mrs. Bennet schemes to throw Elizabeth together with the rich and elusive Mr. Darcy, hoping the scandal will force his cooperation. Proper Mr. Darcy is concerned primarily with his reputation and would not dare marry someone like Elizabeth under normal circumstances. But with that dreadful situation in Ramsgate threatening to be exposed, he fears for his sister’s good name. His hands are tied. Elizabeth thinks Darcy rude and arrogant. She would not marry him if she had a choice. Darcy thinks Elizabeth far beneath him, but he is drawn to her against his will. Together, they summon within each other passionate hatred, a lit match that promises to explode. Dear Reader, while this variation is hardly wall-to-wall love scenes, I fear it is neither clean nor sweet. Be advised.
