Sugar in the Canefield

I wrote this fiction/romance novel depicting the struggles and accomplishments of slaves and free blacks in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s in Louisiana. The French Napoleonic laws in Louisiana in the 1800 s did not allow slaves nor free blacks to inherit property. My novel has romance between mixed couples and a suspenseful twist at the end. The novel depicts the discovering of oil underneath a sugar-cane plantation and how wealthy individuals and land barons try to steal property from a young mulatto woman who grew up on a sugar-cane plantation. After finding out about an affair her mother had with a white plantation owner she inherited the largest amount of land and plantations in Louisi...

This is a book about the land wars Pennsylvania found itself embroiled in during the latter half of the 18th Century. The wars stemmed from the ambiguous Charters that established the the Colonies of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Virginia. Charles II created the conflict between Pennsylvania and Connecticut by the overlapping of the boundaries of the land he granted to each colony. Similarly, the land granted to Pennsylvania was contested by Virginia. But Virginia could have contested nearly any Colony's land grant. Virginia's grant from James I included most of present-day United States, northern Mexico, and most of western Canada. These armed conflicts were settled only by the first Congress established by the newly formed United States Constitution in 1787, when it ruled in Pennsylvania's favor. This book is purchased at the lowest cost through Lulu.com.

The backstory of the sometimes failed Federal Witness Protection Program and Rollos fathers association with New York wiseguys lend depth and intrigue to this character-driven tale. Enjoy the ride as Rollo Michaels confronts lying clients, a professional hitman, and a homicidal sociopath while antagonizing law enforcement officials of five different agencies from Los Angeles to Deadwood and Beyond.

James Van Allen

Astrophysicist and space pioneer James Van Allen (1914–2006), for whom the Van Allen radiation belts were named, was among the principal scientific investigators for twenty-four space missions, including Explorer I in 1958, the first successful U.S. satellite; Mariner 2’s 1962 flyby of Venus, the first successful mission to another planet; and the 1970s Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 missions that surveyed Jupiter and Saturn. Although he retired as a University of Iowa professor of physics and astronomy in 1985, he remained an active researcher, using his campus office to monitor data from Pioneer 10—on course to reach the edge of the solar system when its signal was lost in 2003—until a ...
