This book integrates foundational ideas from psychology, immersive digital learning environments supported by theories and methods of the learning sciences, particularly in pursuit of questions of cognition, behavior and emotion factors in digital learning experiences. New and emerging foundations of theory and analysis based on observation of digital traces are enhanced by data science, particularly machine learning, with extensions to deep learning, natural language processing and artificial intelligence brought into service to better understand higher-order thinking capacities such as self-regulation, collaborative problem-solving and social construction of knowledge. As a result, this edited volume presents a collection of indicators or measurements focusing on learning processes and related behavior, (meta-)cognition, emotion and motivation, as well as social processes. In addition, each section of the book includes an invited commentary from a related field, such as educational psychology, cognitive science, learning science, etc.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Advances in Quantitative Ethnography, ICQE 2022, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, during October 15–19, 2022.The 29 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 71 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: QE Theory and Methodology Research; Applications in Education Contexts; and Applications in Interdisciplinary Contexts.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 14th European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning, EC-TEL 2019, held in Delft, The Netherlands, in September 2019. The 41 research papers and 50 demo and poster papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 149 submissions. The contributions reflect the debate around the role of and challenges for cutting-edge 21st century meaningful technologies and advances such as artificial intelligence and robots, augmented reality and ubiquitous computing technologies and at the same time connecting them to different pedagogical approaches, types of learning settings, and application domains that can benefit from such technologies.
This volume constitutes poster papers and late breaking results presented during the 24th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, AIED 2023, Tokyo, Japan, July 3–7, 2023. The 65 poster papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 311 submissions. This set of posters was complemented with the other poster contributions submitted for the Poster and Late Breaking results track of the AIED 2023 conference.
The new multimedia standards (for example, MPEG-21) facilitate the seamless integration of multiple modalities into interoperable multimedia frameworks, transforming the way people work and interact with multimedia data. These key technologies and multimedia solutions interact and collaborate with each other in increasingly effective ways, contributing to the multimedia revolution and having a significant impact across a wide spectrum of consumer, business, healthcare, education, and governmental domains. This book aims to provide a complete coverage of the areas outlined and to bring together the researchers from academic and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, challenges, and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of this field.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 13th European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning, EC-TEL 2018, held in Leeds, UK, in September 2018. The 42 full and short papers, 7 demo papers, and 23 poster papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 142 submissions. This year, the European Conference on Technology-Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) will engage researchers, practitioners, educational developers, entrepreneurs and policy makers in a joint discussion on how to put science, technology and practice at the service of learning to embrace these challenges on the topic: Lifelong technology enhanced learning: Dealing with the complexity of 21st century challenges. /div Chapter "" is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Quantitative Ethnography, ICQE 2019, held in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, in October 2019. It consists of 23 full and 9 short carefully reviewed papers selected from 52 submissions. The contributions come from a diverse range of fields and perspectives, including learning analytics, history, and systems engineering, all attempting to understand the breadth of human behavior using quantitative ethnographic approaches.
This book focuses on the interplay between pedagogy and technology, and their fusion for the advancement of smart learning environments. It discusses various components of this interplay, including learning and assessment paradigms, social factors and policies, emerging technologies, innovative application of mature technologies, transformation of curriculum and teaching behavior, transformation of administration, best infusion practices, and piloting of new ideas. The book provides an archival forum for researchers, academics, practitioners and industry professionals interested and/or engaged in reforming teaching and learning methods by promoting smart learning environments. It also facilitates discussions and constructive dialogue among various stakeholders on the limitations of existing learning environments, the need for reform, innovative uses of emerging pedagogical approaches and technologies, and sharing and promoting best practices, leading to the evolution, design and implementation of smart learning environments.
