The Rules of the Game
Tavistock Press was established as a co-operative venture between the Tavistock Institute and Routledge & Kegan Paul (RKP) in the 1950s to produce a series of major contributions across the social sciences. This volume is part of a 2001 reissue of a selection of those important works which have since gone out of print, or are difficult to locate. Published by Routledge, 112 volumes in total are being brought together under the name The International Behavioural and Social Sciences Library: Classics from the Tavistock Press. Reproduced here in facsimile, this volume was originally published in 1972 and is available individually. The collection is also available in a number of themed mini-sets of between 5 and 13 volumes, or as a complete collection.

Essays in Economic Theory, Growth, and Labour Markets
The distinguished contributors in this volume provide a variety of essays, which are written in honor of Emmanuel Drandakis. These essays fall into four uniform areas of economics: economic growth, general equilibrium, labor economics and game theory and applications. The editors focus on a select set of issues that stand high on the agenda of academic research. They provide fresh insights and approaches to the analysis of these issues, and thus open up wider avenues for our understanding of the dilemmas posed for theory and policy. Supervision and Authority in Industry
The number of studies discussing the labour relationship under industrial capitalism is overwhelming, but the literature on labour and its concrete, day-today shop-floor practices is much less abundant. How and by whom workers were supervised is one of the neglected aspects in the history of labour relations. After an insightful introductory chapter discussing the different forms of supervision in the United States, Britain, France and Germany before the First World War, the case studies in this volume focus on foremen: vital, but largely unstudied figures in the history of factory life, labour relations and management. Illustrating the multiple faces of the foreman, the contributors examine the artisanal sector, textiles, mining, printing, engineering, heavy manufacturing and car industries in Western Europe and show that the foreman was a multifaceted character who possessed technical expertise in addition to educational and organizational qualities. This comprehensive volume is further enhanced by comparisons with practices of supervision in Russia, Japan, China and India.
The Network Collective
The network paradigm dominated immunological research from the early 1970s to the late 1980s. The originator, Niels Jerne, hypothesized that the vast diversity of antibodies in each individual forms a network of mutual "idiotypic" recognition, thus regulating the immune system. In context of emerging concepts of systems biology such as cybernetics and autopoesis, the "Eigenbehavior" of the immune system fascinated an entire generation of young immunologists. This book is a record of a symposium, "Ultrafiltration Membranes and Applications," which was held at the l78th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Washington, D.C., September 11-13, 1979. In organlzlng these sessions, I hoped to provide a comprehensive survey of the current state of ultrafiltration theory, the most recent advances in membrane technology, and a thorough treatment of existing applications and future directions for ultrafiltration. Therapeutic Plasma Exchange
This volume contains papers and discussions of the Vlth Dialyse-Arzte Workshop, which was held in Bernried at Lake Starnberg near Munich the 5th and 6th of March 1980. Generous ly sponsored by Travenol, Munich, the Dialyse-Arzte meetings now have a tradition spanning 16 years. According to the con stitution of these meetings, the topics of earlier years had to cover dialysis and related fields. Thus the sponsor requested that this year also one lecture - incorporated here as part - should deal with the state of art of dialysis, thereby hopefully linking this Workshop to the previous meetings. Dialysis techniques of the 1960s, pioneered by many of attend ing speakers and panelists (see List of Contributors), have never come to a standstill. Indeed, vascular access and extra corporeal circulation have become routine for the nephrologist and have made possible the introductimn of new approaches, such as hemofiltration and hemoperfusion. Also today new membrane technologies provide us with a potentially even more effective therapeutic tool, namely plasma separation.
