This volume constitutes the proceedings of a conference on functional analysis and its applications, which took place in India during December 1996. Topics include topological vector spaces, Banach algebras, meromorphic functions, partial differential equations, variational equations and inequalities, optimization, wavelets, elastroplasticity, numerical integration, fractal image compression, reservoir simulation, forest management, and industrial maths.
This volume comprises the Lecture Notes of the CIMPA/TUBITAK Summer School Arrangements, Local systems and Singularities held at Galatasaray University, Istanbul during June 2007. The volume is intended for a large audience in pure mathematics, including researchers and graduate students working in algebraic geometry, singularity theory, topology and related fields. The reader will find a variety of open problems involving arrangements, local systems and singularities proposed by the lecturers at the end of the school.
An up-to-date survey of research in singularity theory.
This first part of this book deals with the boundary value problem with equivalued surfaces, while the second part is concerned with the mathematical model and method, including the numerical method, of the resistivity well-logging for the three-lateral well-logging.
This volume contains the invited papers given at the Fourth French-Latin American Congress on Applied Mathematics. New numerical techniques in fluid and solid mechanics were presented.
This text examines the singularity problem for solutions of elliptic and parabolic quasilinear equations of second order.
This volume clearly reflects Ricardo Mane's legacy, his contribution to mathematics and the diversity of his mathematical intersts. It contains fifteen refereed research papers on thems including Hamiltonian and Lagrangian dynamics, growth rate of the number of geodesics on a compact manifold, one dimensional complex and real dynamics, and bifurcations and singular cycles. This book also contains two famous sets of notes by Ricardo Mane. One is the seminal paper on Lagrangian dynamics that he had prepared for the conference; the other is on the genericity of zero exponents area preserving diffeomorphisms on surfaces when non Anosov. This book will be of particular interest to researchers and graduate students in mathematics, mechanics and mathematical physics.
In the last few decades, complex dynamical systems have received widespread public attention and emerged as one of the most active fields of mathematical research. Starting where other monographs in the subject end, Progress in Holomorphic Dynamics advances the theoretical aspects and recent results in complex dynamical systems, with particular emphasis on Siegel discs. Organized into four parts, the papers in this volume grew out of three workshops: two hosted by the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and one at the "Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach." Part I addresses linearization. The authors review Yoccoz's proof that the Brjuno condition is the optimal condition for linea...
The papers in this volume address the state-of-the-art and future directions in applied mathematics in both scattering theory and biomedical technology. A workshop held in Metsovo, Greece during the summer of 1997 brought together some of the world's foremose experts in the field with researchers working in Greece. Sixteen of the contributed papers appear in this volume. All the papers give new directions, and in several cases, the most important scientific contributions in the fields.
These conference proceedings include papers by a number of experts with a common interest in differential equations and their application in physical and biological systems. Topics covered include direct and inverse electromagnetic scattering techniques, spatial epidemic models, wound healing, chemotaxis and reaction-diffusion equations, dynamics and stability of thin liquid films, and a contemporary formulation of symmetric linear differential equations.
