Codes for Error Detection

Codes for Error Detection

There are two basic methods of error control for communication, both involving coding of the messages. With forward error correction, the codes are used to detect and correct errors. In a repeat request system, the codes are used to detect errors and, if there are errors, request a retransmission. Error detection is usually much simpler to implement than error correction and is widely used. However, it is given a very cursory treatment in almost all textbooks on coding theory. Only a few older books are devoted to error detecting codes. This book begins with a short introduction to the theory of block codes with emphasis on the parts important for error detection. The weight distribution is particularly important for this application and is treated in more detail than in most books on error correction. A detailed account of the known results on the probability of undetected error on the q-ary symmetric channel is also given.

Modelling and Identification with Rational Orthogonal Basis Functions

Models of dynamical systems are of great importance in almost all fields of science and engineering and specifically in control, signal processing and information science. A model is always only an approximation of a real phenomenon so that having an approximation theory which allows for the analysis of model quality is a substantial concern. The use of rational orthogonal basis functions to represent dynamical systems and stochastic signals can provide such a theory and underpin advanced analysis and efficient modelling. It also has the potential to extend beyond these areas to deal with many problems in circuit theory, telecommunications, systems, control theory and signal processing. Modelling and Identification with Rational Orthogonal Basis Functions affords a self-contained description of the development of the field over the last 15 years, furnishing researchers and practising engineers working with dynamical systems and stochastic processes with a standard reference work.

Software Engineering Perspectives in Intelligent Systems

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th Computational Methods in Systems and Software 2020 (CoMeSySo 2020) proceedings. Software engineering, computer science and artificial intelligence are crucial topics for the research within an intelligent systems problem domain. The CoMeSySo 2020 conference is breaking the barriers, being held online. CoMeSySo 2020 intends to provide an international forum for the discussion of the latest high-quality research results.

'Making Marketing Happen' is prompted by needs of practising managers who have found the traditional marketing planning texts to be "fine in theory, but hard to apply to my special market". In short, it holds that marketing planning fails for most companies because it either does not fit their organizational culture, their market conditions or both. Successful companies do not plan. They use a hybrid strategy making process including vision, incrementalism and planning. The ratio of these three things is critical and the right ratio is unique to every company. The author develops this argument and explains how companies can construct the right hybrid strategy making process for their situation. The book has been designed for those practising managers who need more than the planning text book. It will tell you: * Why attempts at planning are foiled by the market, the company culture or both. * How effective strategists don't plan, but use organizationally tailored strategy making processes * How to design the right process for your company and your market * How to know if the strategy you make is strong before you implement it.
