This volume publishes key proceedings from the recent International Conference on Hopf Algebras held at DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. This volume presents the proceedings from the Colloquium on Quantum Groups and Hopf Algebras held in Cordoba (Argentina) in 1999. This volume presents research and expository papers presented at the third and fifth meetings of the Council for African American Researchers in the Mathematical Sciences (CAARMS). Groupoids often occur when there is symmetry of a nature not expressible in terms of groups. Other uses of groupoids can involve something of a dynamical nature. Indeed, some of the main examples come from group actions.
