Engineering Undergraduate Education
The Panel on Undergraduate Engineering Education prepared this report as part of the overall effort of the National Research Council's Committee on the Education and Utilization of the Engineer. The panel studied the academic preparation of engineers for practicing their profession. This document provides an analysis of the research done by the panel. Its findings and recommendations deal with: (1) "The Goals of Undergraduate Engineering Education"; (2) "Undergraduate Students"; (3) "Faculty"; (4) "The Curriculum"; (5) "The Role of Laboratory Instruction"; and (6) "The Two-Tiered System." Closing the Achievement Gap from an International Perspective
In a changing world that demands new skills, a vital concern of public education is the gap in academic performance between low- and high-achieving students. There is no excuse for the achievement gaps that persist among poor and minority students in schools today. All students can succeed at high levels, regardless of race, ethnicity and economic background.
