Systematic Chasing for Economic Success: An Innovation Management Approach for German SME's in Drive Technology Business
The industry of the German drive technology is dominated by SME's, and must supply its products to customers around the world. In addition, this industrial segment is challenged by competitors from many other countries, and from customers with a variety of different needs. Therefore, there are two questions that arose for SME's. Firstly, 'what is the best strategy to take an advantage in the competition', and secondly, 'how does the strategies can be used in the most efficient way.' The structure, the essential needs and the boundary conditions will be derived from the analysis of the industrial segment. In addition, a suitable strategy that should take an advantage in the worldwide competition will be analysed and discussed. In the end, the author develops an innovative management process and a toolbox for SME's to make this strategy applicable to a company.
European Book Cultures
Stephanie Kurschus analyses the idea of a common "European" book culture that integrates the book market as an essential aspect and employs book promotion as balancing instrument. Characteristics of book culture are identified; the resultant concept of book culture provides an overview of the values and myths ascribed to the book. Furthermore, applied book promotion measures are analyzed for their effectiveness and best practice models. Since, in a context determined by culture and market, preservation and innovation, book promotion fulfills two functions: it is to protect the unique national characteristics of book culture as well as to support its continuous development. To adapt and to advance within a changing environment is critical to the survival of book culture in the digital reality.
Modern Internet Services
Modern World Wide Web provides a variety of services ranging from e-mail and social networking to banking and shopping. It is difficult for service providers to manage these Internet services, because: (1) they exhibit complex structural organization, where component middleware (such as Java EE) is often used as building platform, and (2) complex session- oriented client behavior makes it hard to predict what impact service management mechanisms will have on application behavior. This book presents several new and novel Internet service management techniques that target two interconnected goals: (1) providing improved Quality-of-Service guarantees to the service clients, and (2) optimizing server resource utilization. These mechanism are representatively chosen to validate the claim that exposing and using detailed information about how clients use Internet services enables mechanisms that achieve the range of goals listed above. This book should be useful to all professionals working in the area of Internet services, or anyone else who may be interested in the latest developments in this exciting area of distributed computing systems research and practice.
