Sheffield discusses his service in the Navy in World War II, including the Communications Office, Washington, D.C., Sub Chaser Training School, assigned to Sub Chaser 1468 with duty in the Caribbean at Trinidad, Sighting a German sub, ordered to Quonset Point NAS and Anti-Submarine Development unit, attended Fire Fighting and Damage Control School, assigned to destroyer transport William M. Hobby as executive officer in the Pacific, then in Japan, separated from the Navy in November 1945, but remained in the Reserves until 1954.
