Based on his popular college film courses, Dr. William Russo presents a selective guide to political movies and TV documentaries.
The second collection of humorous sports essays by William Russo continues his assault on Boston sports figures from baseball, basketball, and football. With scathing wit and irony, no sports vanity or deadly sin is spared.
Aimed at those who have some knowledge of music but not formal training in composition, this concise introduction to composing starts right in with a brief composition exercise, then proceeds step by step through a series of increasingly complex and challenging problems, gradually expanding the student's musical grammar. "This is a wonderful book for anyone who is developing improvising skills or who would like a fun way to explore music."—Jim Stockford, Co-Evolution Quarterly
Continuing movie and television reviews from Dr. William Russo.
Based on Dr. William Russo's popular film courses for decades, this collection of selected reviews gives readers an idea of unusual and forgotten music movies and TV they ought to see.
"Russo has undertaken an ambitious project, attempting to discuss together the elements of music that are commonly treated separately in books on harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration. As such, his new book contains enough musical instruction to be of interest even to students not particularly interested in 'jazz' or Russo's own musical idiom. For the student who wants to compose or arrange for 'jazz' ensembles from dance bands to full orchestras, Russo has shown himself to be a generous source of good advice."--Jon Newsom, Notes
Paranormal events or coincidences? Dr. William Russo tells the story of strange events and mysterious circumstances around his home, the former property of two victims of the Titanic disaster.
"Although it will be of primary interest to those who are engaged in composition themselves, [this] book is also recommended for readers who may wish to gain further insight into just what makes jazz composition so different from traditional approaches."—Malcolm Bessom, The Music Magazine
