This book describes the experiences of William Shelton, a soldier in the Second World War. The detail of Mr Sheltons experiences are expressed with humour and emotion, giving a real insight into what being a soldier on the front line involved. Williams experiences, like many, were bitter sweet and he received a Military Medal for bravery during his commission. This memoir is well worth the time to read and truly expresses the bravery, courage and sacrifice that gave us our freedom. Mr Shelton wrote this account in his eighties.

Towns of Mount Lassen
The imposing and dormant peak of Mount Lassen, the southernmost volcano in the Cascade Range, has been held in awe and wonder since well before the California Gold Rush. The Yahi Nation called the volcano Waganupa, meaning the center of the world, and the volcanos peak, named after the Dutch immigrant and prospector Peter Lassen, is the centerpiece of the scenic Lassen Volcanic National Park. Within the guarded perimeters of this parkinducted into the park system under Woodrow Wilson in 1916, hardly a year after the devastation of its most recent eruptionsthere was once a thriving lumber industry, narrow-gauge railroad system, and flume network that sustained a community of lumber camps and the lost town of Lyonsville, all threatened by volcanic destruction and the changing West.
Sarah Shelton Henry
This is a story of revolutionary war patriot Patrick Henry’s first wife Sarah Shelton (1738-1775). This woman was confined to the cellar of her home by her husband Patrick Henry. Sarah Shelton Henry was thought to be insane and/or possessed by the devil. Today Sarah Shelton Henry would probably be diagnosed as suffering from postpartum depression and or puerperal psychosis. These are two types of illnesses that sometime affects women after the birth of a child. Sarah Shelton’s mental state of mind did began to decline after the birth of her last child. In fact, in a letter written to Patrick Henry’s sister from her mother stated “we feel Sarah is losing her mind after the birth of little Neddy. Most people of Virginia did not know what the Henry family had to endure day after day for three to four years. This dark secret could never be exposed. The dark secret of having your wife living her life in the cellar. These were very politically active years for Patrick Henry. He was trying to make a change for Virginia and also becoming the first governor.
