Mahesh Kumar, BA (Hons), ACMA, ATT, CMC, MBA a London based, chartered accountant and financial professional develops the "Fine Wine Index" and documents how investment in fine wines over the past 20 years equal 'or exceed' the return from stocks and bonds. Based on the Nobel Prize winning portfolio theory of Harvey Markovitz, the author provides a mean-variance model with expected return, standard deviations (risk) and correlations between asset returns. Since portfolios including Fine Wines have higher Sharpe ratios than stocks and bonds only, they have a higher expected return per unit of risk. It includes extensive data and charts that document the performance for each investment for every 5 year period since 1983. The 'blue chip' wines and vintages are discussed and strategies for reduction of risk by buying the right wines at the right time are recommended. Illustrated

With a little research and a little risk, wine enthusiasts on every level will find it possible to gain big rewards in wine investment -- and there's never been a better time to try. IGWs have dependably outperformed blue chip stocks over the past 150 years, and the upscale wine market is still an area in which independent investors can profit handsomely. In simple, practical term...
Wine investing is not new, it has been going on for centuries. In more recent years (the last two centuries), government tax laws on alcoholic drinks have made buying wine a little more prohibitive to the investor who wants to keep them at home in his/her private cellar. Nevertheless, as usual, the market has found a way around this problem. You can avoid taxes and V.A.T. (Value Added Tax) by buying fine wine on Bond (also called wine Futures or En Primeur). This book covers a simple and effective way in which anybody coming into the fine wine investing market place can safely securely and successfully select, and invest in En Primeur Wine.
Leading fine wine merchant and investor William Sokolin provides expert advice on how to successfully build an exceptional fine wine collection that has the potential to grow into a fortune.

"EU funds are available to support investments in wine production and to promote EU wines in non-EU countries. In this report, the Court examines whether this support for the wine sector is well managed and whether it has improved the competitiveness of EU wines. During its audit the Court found that the need to provide investment aid to the wine sector, in addition to the aid already available under rural development policy, had not been demonstrated. Promotion support was often used to consolidate market share rather than to win new markets. Moreover, the Court identified promotion operations which would have been undertaken anyway, even without public funding. Finally, the impact of the assistance on the competitiveness of EU wine producers was not always demonstrated. The Court has provided the Commission and the Member States with recommendations on how to remedy the weaknesses mentioned in the report." -- Page [4] of cover.
