This book offers the first comparative study of far-right messaging and organizing efforts at the workplace level as well as responses by established trade unions, encompassing six European countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland). Drawing on semi-structured interviews with workers and trade union actors with a focus on the automobile industry, the volume develops a classification of far-right strategies and trade union counter-strategies in comparative perspective. Based on a research project in cooperation with trade unions, the book is situated at the interface of comparative politics, industrial sociology, political economy, and political sociology.
ECOOP 2002 Workshop Reader
"Grotz and Schroeder's book is an encompassing analysis of the German political system. In an unprecedented effort, it provides extensive information grounded in democratic theory, and provides a detailed account of multi-level governance in the largest EU member state. I whole-heartedly recommend it to students and scholars alike." -Arend Lijphart, University of California, San Diego, USA "A comprehensive, theoretical informed guide to German politics. This is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the origins, performance, and challenges facing one of the world's most important democracies." -Daniel Ziblatt, Harvard University, USA, and WZB Berlin, Germany and co-author How D...
With unification as a nation state under Bismarck in 1871, Germany experienced the advent of mass politics. The dynamic political culture that emerged challenged the adaptability of the 'interlocking directorate of the Right.' This work examines how the authoritarian imagination inspired the Right and how political pragmatism constrained it.
The purpose of this workshop was to provide a general forum for distributed systems researchers. Special em- phasis was placed on research activities in distributed operating systems and management of distributed sys- stems. This volume includes a selection of the papers presented at the workshop. They focus on the illustration of existing concepts and solutions in distributed systems research and development, exemplified by case study analyses of various projects. The annex contains the position papers prepared for the panel discussions at the workshop.
Annotation "The handbook provides an overview of the current status of this research. In its first volume, the handbook begins by presenting the historical background of the theories in which the conceptions are rooted and then goes on to deal with the individual ele."
This open access book presents the findings of Collaborative Research Center Transregio 40 (TRR40), initiated in July 2008 and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Gathering innovative design concepts for thrust chambers and nozzles, as well as cutting-edge methods of aft-body flow control and propulsion-component cooling, it brings together fundamental research undertaken at universities, testing carried out at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and industrial developments from the ArianeGroup. With a particular focus on heat transfer analyses and novel cooling concepts for thermally highly loaded structures, the book highlights the aft-body flow of the space transportation system and its interaction with the nozzle flow, which are especially critical during the early phase of atmospheric ascent. Moreover, it describes virtual demonstrators for combustion chambers and nozzles, and discusses their industrial applicability. As such, it is a timely resource for researchers, graduate students and practitioners.
This volume presents the technical program of the 2007 International Embedded Systems Symposium held in Irvine, California. It covers timely topics, techniques and trends in embedded system design, including design methodology, networks-on-chip, distributed and networked systems, and system verification. It places emphasis on automotive and medical applications and includes case studies and special aspects in embedded system design.
