Computational Methods for Communication Science showcases the use of innovative computational methods in the study of communication. This book discusses the validity of using big data in communication science and showcases a number of new methods and applications in the fields of text and network analysis. Computational methods have the potential to greatly enhance the scientific study of communication because they allow us to move towards collaborative large-N studies of actual behavior in its social context. Semantic Network Analysis
This books describes a number of techniques that have been developed to facilitate Semantic Network Analysis. It describes techniques to automatically extract networks using co-occurrence, grammatical analysis, and sentiment analysis using machine learning. Additionally, it describes techniques to represent the extracted semantic networks and background knowledge about the actors and issues in the network, using Semantic Web techniques to deal with multiple issue categorisations and political roles and functions that shift over time.
