The rise and proliferation of Arthurian prose romances in France in the thirteenth century is attested most notably by the enormous corpus of Old French Arthurian prose romances known as the Vulgate Cycle. According to most scholars, the Vulgate Cycle in its original form comprised three prose romances: the Roman de Lancelot en prose, the Roman de la Queste del Saint Graal and the Roman de la Mort le Roi Artu. A History of Arthurian Scholarship

Details of all published Arthurian work post 1978 to 1992. If one wants to scoop up nearly everything on an Arthurian subject, there is no substitute for the Arthurian Bibliography series. ANGLIA In 1981 the first Arthurian Bibliography appeared, an exhaustive alphabetical author-listing of all critical material recorded in the standard Arthurian bibliographies up to 1978. This was followed in 1983 by the second volume, giving full indexes by topic, key-word and individual work/author to form a complete subject-index of every topic in Arthurian literature. Summaries and reviews were also indicated where they existed. Arthurian Bibliography III updates this invaluable reference work for Arthurian scholars to 1992. Compiled from the BBSIA, it conveniently contains both author-listing and subject-index in one volume.
The Arthur of the Germans
From the twelfth century onwards the legends of King Arthur and his knights, including the Tristan legend, spread across Europe, producing a vast range of adaptations and new stories. German and Dutch literature were of central importance in this expansion of Arthurian material from the 12th to 16th century. This title deals with this topic.
The Seafaring Saint
Navigatio Sancti Brendani Abbatis, written in Latin around 800 AD, tells the story of 6th century Irish Saint Brendan's departure for an island paradise across the ocean. Three and a half centuries later, in Germany, another account of Saint Brendan was written, called Reis van Sint Brandaan. While the two share the theme of an abbot on the sea, there are many conflicting differences that have given rise to some of the most baffling problems of Brendan scholarship. This book compares the two, eventually concluding that the Voyage is rooted in an agglomeration of Irish stories, the same which eventually gave rise to the Navigatio.
