Asphaltenes, Heavy Oils, and Petroleomics

With substantial contributions from experienced industrial scientists and engineers, this work will have real application towards improving process efficiency and improvement in the trillion-dollar global petroleum industry. It presents an overview of the emerging field of petroleomics, which endeavors to understand the fundamental components of crude oil. Petroleomics promises to revolutionize petroleum science in much the same way that genomics transformed the study of medicine not long ago. Asphaltenes are a particular focus, with many chapters devoted to the analysis of their structure and properties.

Mental Health Promotion and Protection

The WHO constitution states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." There are multiple factors that contribute towards good mental health including civil liberties, politics, economics, social rights, and cultural diversity, and quality of life of the individual and the society as a whole. The promotion of mental health spans many disciplines in order to cover all these factors such as education, work, justice, housing, and welfare. Therefore, it is important to collaborate to create an environment that promotes and supports mental health to improve psychological well-being and allow individuals to realize th...

Dynamic Functional Connectivity in Neuropsychiatric Disorders: Methods and Applications, volume II

Neuropsychiatric disorders have a huge impact on individuals, families and societies. However, the neuropathology underlying cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders remains unclear. Resting-state functional connectivity provides a powerful way to investigate functional alterations underlying cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders. Traditional FC analysis measures the correlations of signals with an assumption that functional connectivity remains constant during the observation period. In recent years, several studies have demonstrated the feasibility of dynamic methods in characterization of functional brain changes, such as dynamic functional connectivity investigated by a sliding window method. However, selection of window size, window stepsize and window type are open areas of research and an important parameter to capture the resting-state FC dynamics.

Zi Zhi Tong Jian (Chinese: 资治通鉴;English: "Comprehensive Mirror in Aid of Governance") is a pioneering reference work in Chinese historiography, published in 1084 in the form of a chronicle. In 1065 AD, Emperor Yingzong of Songordered the great historian Sima Guang (1019–1086 AD) to lead with other scholars such as his chief assistants Liu Shu, Liu Ban and Fan Zuyu, the compilation of a universal history of China. The task took 19 years to be completed, and, in 1084 AD, it was presented to his successor Emperor Shenzong of Song. The Zi Zhi Tong Jian records Chinese history from 403 BC to 959 AD, covering 16 dynasties and spanning across almost 1,400 years, and contains 294 volumes (...

The synthesis of RNA and DNA in the 5'-3' direction is thought to be a universal feature of biological systems and is a hallmark of the central dogma of biology. However, the discovery of Watson-Crick dependent reverse (3'-5') polymerase activity catalyzed by members of the tRNAHis guanylyltransferase (Thg1) enzyme family challenged this idea that the 5'-3' mechanism is the exclusive route for nucleic acid synthesis. In many eukaryotes, Thg1 enzymes use a non-templated 3'-5' addition activity to play an essential role in maturation of nuclear-encoded tRNAHis. Before this study, however, any biological functions for the 3'-5' polymerase activity associated with this enzyme family have remaine...
