Fundamentals of Robotic Grasping and Fixturing

This book provides a fundamental knowledge of robotic grasping and fixturing (RGF) manipulation. For RGF manipulation to become a science rather than an art, the content of the book is uniquely designed for a thorough understanding of the RGF from the multifingered robot hand grasp, basic fixture design principle, and evaluating and planning of robotic grasping/fixturing, and focuses on the modeling and applications of the RGF. Compared with existing publications, this volume concentrates more on abstract formulation, i.e. mathematical modeling of robotic grasping and fixturing. Thus, it will be a good reference text for academic researchers, manufacturing and industrial engineers and a text...

Toward Humanoid Robots: The Role of Fuzzy Sets

This book offers a comprehensive reference guide for modeling humanoid robots using intelligent and fuzzy systems. It provides readers with the necessary intelligent and fuzzy tools for controlling humanoid robots by incomplete, vague, and imprecise information or insufficient data, where classical modeling approaches cannot be applied. The respective chapters, written by prominent researchers, explain a wealth of both basic and advanced concepts including fuzzy control, metaheuristic-based control, neutrosophic control, etc. To foster reader comprehension, all chapters include relevant numerical examples or case studies. Taken together, they form an excellent reference guide for researchers, lecturers, and postgraduate students pursuing research on humanoid robots. Moreover, by extending all the main aspects of humanoid robots to its intelligent and fuzzy counterparts, the book presents a dynamic snapshot of the field that is expected to stimulate new directions, ideas, and developments.

Mou Zongsan 牟宗三 (1909-1995) was the theoretical genius behind New Confucianism, a philosophical and cultural movement marking the revival of Ruxue in Asia and Northern America since the late 1970s. This book is the first thorough study in English of Mou’s multi-faceted and complex system. It examines the key influences of Xiong Shili 熊十力 (1885-1968), G. W. F. Hegel (1770-1831), and Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) on the Chinese thinker and presents his thought as a contemporary moral metaphysical recasting of the Lu-Wang Learning of the Mind using Mahāyāna Fo paradigms and Kantian terminology. The study also reveals the strong Han cultural nationalism entwined with Mou’s philosophical system and looks at how his thought has been received.

"China’s status in the world of expanding European empires of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries has long been under dispute. Its unequal relations with multiple powers, secured through a system of treaties rather than through colonization, has invited debate over the degree and significance of outside control and local sovereignty. Navigating Semi-Colonialism examines steam navigation—introduced by foreign powers to Chinese waters in the mid-nineteenth century—as a constitutive element of the treaty system to illuminate both conceptual and concrete aspects of this regime, arguing for the specificity of China’s experience, its continuities with colonialism in other contexts...
