One of the most important and celebrated works of premodern Korean prose fiction, Kŭmo sinhwa (New Tales of the Golden Turtle) is a collection of five tales of the strange artfully written in literary Chinese by Kim Sisŭp (1435–1493). Kim was a major intellectual and poet of the early Chosŏn dynasty (1392–1897), and this book is widely recognized as marking the beginning of classical fiction in Korea. This book consists of survey articles and original research papers in the representation theory of reductive p-adic groups. In particular, it includes a survey by Anne-Marie Aubert on the enormously influential local Langlands conjectures. The survey gives a precise and accessible formulation of many aspects of the conjectures, highlighting recent refinements, due to the author and her collaborators, and their current status. It also features an extensive account by Colin Bushnell of his work with Henniart on the fine structure of the local Langlands correspondence for general linear groups, beginning with a clear overview of Bushnell–Kutzko’s construction of cuspidal types for such groups. The remaining papers touch on a range of topics in this active area of modern mathematics: group actions on root data, explicit character formulas, classification of discrete series representations, unicity of types, local converse theorems, completions of Hecke algebras, p-adic symmetric spaces. The origins of the harmonic analysis go back to an ingenious idea of Fourier that any reasonable function can be represented as an infinite linear combination of sines and cosines. Today's harmonic analysis incorporates the elements of geometric measure theory, number theory, probability, and has countless applications from data analysis to image recognition and from the study of sound and vibrations to the cutting edge of contemporary physics. The present volume is based on lectures presented at the summer school on Harmonic Analysis. These notes give fresh, concise, and high-level introductions to recent developments in the field, often with new arguments not found elsewhere. This book is the third Proceedings of the Southeastern Lie Theory Workshop Series covering years 2015–21. During this time five workshops on different aspects of Lie theory were held at North Carolina State University in October 2015; University of Virginia in May 2016; University of Georgia in June 2018; Louisiana State University in May 2019; and College of Charleston in October 2021. Some of the articles by experts in the field describe recent developments while others include new results in categorical, combinatorial, and geometric representation theory of algebraic groups, Lie (super) algebras, and quantum groups, as well as on some related topics. The survey articles will be beneficial to junior researchers. This book will be useful to any researcher working in Lie theory and related areas.
This volume contains lectures from the Graduate Summer School “Quantum Field Theory and Manifold Invariants” held at Park City Mathematics Institute 2019.
