La protagonista de "Los años que vivimos" es una historia real, de Carmen Pérez Silva, natural de Écija, nacida en el siglo XIX, en 1898 y contada por la escritora y nieta de la principal protagonista. La historia de Carmen, se desarrolló en la calle Paloma n°13 de Écija, donde tuvo a sus hijos y nacieron todos sus 28 nietos Basada en la vida de su abuela, una mujer adelantada a su tiempo. Vivió a caballo entre dos Guerras Mundiales y durante la Guerra Civil Española. Casada con su cuñado, un hombre al que no amaba y con el que vivió una vida infeliz. Logró divorciarse durante la II República, época en que la mujer logró el derecho al voto y al divorcio. Una luchadora toda su vida que logró en tiempos tan difíciles, alcanzar sus objetivos. Falleció en el año 1987.
