This monograph contains the proceedings from the Advanced Study Institute on "Vascular Endothelium: Physiological Basis of Clinical Problems" which took place in Corfu, Greece in June 1990. The meeting consisted of twenty-eight lectures, most of them adapted as full length papers in this volume, as well as numerous short oral and poster communications which are abstracted and also included in alphabetical order (pages 239-302). There were ninety-six participants from ten NATO and four other European countries. The meeting was the second in as many years dealing with a specific subject in Endothelial Cell biology. Following the 1988 discussion on "Receptors and Transduction Mechanisms", the p...
Based on the proceedings of the International Convocation on Immunology held recently at the State University of New York at Buffalo, this up-to-date resource provides a state-of-the-art examination of blood transfusion practice and its future possibilities. Explains the immunological effects of blood transfusion as well as its immunological and microbiological hazards and offers potential remedies!

This represents the third volume in a series on cancer markers pub lished by the Humana Press. The first volume, published in 1980, stressed the relationship of development and cancer as reflected in the production of markers by cancer that are also produced by normal cells during fetal development. The concept that cancer represents a problem of differentiation was introduced by Barry Pierce in describing differenti ation of teratocarcinomas. Highlighted were lymphocyte markers, alphafetoprotein, carcinoembryonic antigen, ectopic hormones, enzymes and isozymes, pregnancy proteins, and fibronectin. The second volume, published in 1982 and coedited with Britta Wahren, focused on the diagnostic use of oncological markers in human cancers, which were systematically treated on an organ by organ basis. At that time, the application of monoclonal antibodies to the identification of cancer markers was still in a very preliminary stage. A general introduc tion to monoclonal antibodies to human tumor antigens was given there by William Raschke, and other authors included coverage of those mark ers then detectable by monoclonal antibodies in their chapters.
Synthesizes recent advances in immunology and vascular biology to examine interactions between the endothelium and the immune response system and the immunopathology involved in various forms of vascular damage, particularly atherosclerosis. Coverage includes the endothelium as an antigen presenting cell, chemokines in vascular pathophysiology, humoral immunity and vascular injury in xenograft rejection, and autoimmunity to oxidized lipoproteins. For scientists and physicians interested in immunology, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease states. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Proceedings of the Third Hans Selye Symposium on Neuroendocrinology and Stress held in Budapest, Hungary, August 17-21, 1992.
Presenting an overview of the specific clinical problems that may be secondary to underlying immunological processes, this comprehensive reference details practical approaches for diagnosing and treating critically ill patients with rheumatic or immunological diseases. Emphasizing the clinical utililty of the procedures discussed, Acute Rheumatic and Immunological Diseases includes useful algorithms to sort through interrelated medical conditions and diagnoses focuses on acute management issues rather than on chronic therapy for rheumatic and immunological diseases provides an exhaustive review of drug overdosage and toxicity delineates successful treatment strategies for hematological, cardiopulmonary, and renal problems analyzes specific therapeutic modalities and much more!
Includes proceedings of the first European Symposium on platelet immunology held in Paris, Palais du Luxembourg (France), 1 to 2 March 1990."
