Communist Terror in Romania
This is a single-volume history of Romania under Gheorghiu-Dej, the Communist ruler and predecessor of Nicolae Ceausescu. It investigates the Communist's use of terror in their attempt to totally transform Romanian society, including appalling abuses and mass arrests.
Church Reckoning with Communism in Post-1989 Romania
The present volume focuses on the relationship with Communism of Romania's most important religious denominations and their attempt to cope with that difficult past which continues to cast an important shadow over their present. For the first time ever, this volume considers both the majority Romanian Orthodox Church and significant minority denominations such as the Roman and Greek Catholic Churches, the Reformed Church, the Hungarian Unitarian Church, and the Pentecostal Christian Denomination. It argues that no religious group escaped collaboration with the Communists. After 1989, however, most denominations had little desire to tackle their tainted past and make a clean start. In part, this situation was facilitated by the country's deficient legislation that did not encourage the pursuit of lustration, which in turn did not lead to a serious movement of elite renewal in the religious realm. Instead, a strong process of reproduction of the old elites and their adaptation to democracy has been the dominant characteristic of the post-Communist period.

Culegerea de studii “Istoria romanilor de la Carol I la Nicolae Ceausescu” reprezinta o reusita sinteza a istoriei noastre pe o perioada de peste un secol, in care Romania a cunoscut diverse regimuri politice si avantul modernizarii, dar si o criza economica si doua razboaie mondiale devastatoare. In acest context economic si politic, romanii au reusit, pentru prima data in istoria lor zbuciumata, sa traiasca toti in granitele unui singur stat – Romania. Prof. univ. dr. Ioan Scurtu a reusit sa fixeze principalii piloni in evolutia istorica de la momentul Marii Uniri pana la regimul comunist al lui Nicolae Ceausescu. Names and Naming
This edited book examines names and naming policies, trends and practices in a variety of multicultural contexts across America, Europe, Africa and Asia. In the first part of the book, the authors take theoretical and practical approaches to the study of names and naming in these settings, exploring legal, societal, political and other factors. In the second part of the book, the authors explore ways in which names mirror and contribute to the construction of identity in areas defined by multiculturalism.
