Dalle coste del Pacifico, dalla scena di Los Angeles stavolta, il West-Coast sound ruppe i legami con il suo passato (quello dei Doors, dei Jefferson Airplane, dei Greatful Dead e della Bay Area) e cambiò pelle. A partire dal country-rock, dal jazz e dal R&B emerse un genere dal volto nuovo, profondamente cambiato nella sua essenza, ancora più popolare, ruffiano e allo stesso tempo persuasivo e intrigante. Si aprì cosi l’epoca del soft-rock, quello degli Eagles, dei Fleetwood Mac, dei Doobie Brothers e di molti altri artisti che trovarono in questa trasformazione il modo di rigenerare il rock e di renderlo ancora vitale.
