Emergencies in Urology

Emergencies in Urology

This is a comprehensive textbook covering one of the few remaining blind spots on the map of urological literature. To date only a small number of publications have been dedicated to the topic of urgent and emergent problems in urology, important though they are in everyday clinical medicine. The editors are both internationally recognized urological experts and have made the effort to present an in-depth study into virtually every possible urgent urological situation with which a urologist may be confronted today. Thus the book includes chapters on topics such as urological trauma, urosepsis, urinary obstruction, oncological emergencies, intra- and postoperative complications, acute problems in children, and many more.

The Manufacture of Alum and the Sulphates and Other Salts of Alumina and Iron (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from The Manufacture of Alum and the Sulphates and Other Salts of Alumina and Iron In compiling the present work, the author has endeavoured to collect the somewhat scanty literary data available on the manufacture of the sulphates of alumina and iron, and combine with them the results of his own researches, in order to bring before the reader a complete account of the processes involved in the treatment of the raw materials employed, namely, bauxite, alunite, pyrite lignites; and of the various applications of the resulting products. The work has been divided into four parts: - 1. A Theoretical Study of Iron, Aluminium, and their Compounds, chiefly confining the question to the sulp...

Reclamation of Aluminum Finishing Sludges

The reclamation of aluminum-anodizing sludges produced as a result of finishing extruded architectural aluminum using etching and anodizing processes was studied by Georgia Tech Research Corporation. Two sequential phases focused on (1) enhanced dewatering of aluminum-anodizing sludges with recessed-chamber filter presses and (2) acidic extraction of dewatered aluminum-anodizing sludges to produce commercial-strength solutions of aluminum sulfate, i.e., liquid alum. A high-pressure (14 to 15 bar) and a diaphragm filter press were effective in dewatering aluminum anodizing sludges to cake solids contents of 27% to 29% and 25% to 31%, respectively. These values were well above the 21 % value required to justify pursuit of direct acidic extraction of aluminum. Commercial-strength solutions of aluminum sulfate with concentrations of 8% as AI2Oa were produced using conventional-neutralization, segregated-neutralization, etch-recovery sludge cakes. The trace metal contents of the alum products were, in general, typical of commercial products.
