Language Endangerment and Language Maintenance
Language endangerment is a fundamental issue for humanity. What rights do minority communities have concerning their languages? How does each language conceptualize the world differently? How much knowledge about the world and a local ecosystem is lost when a language disappears? What is the process involved and how can insights about this process contribute to linguistic theory? Third International Conference on Minority Languages
This volume contains a selection of papers on various aspects, mainly linguistic, of the present day situation of the Celtic languages of Britain and Ireland. The papers were given at the Third International Conference on Minority Languages, which was held in Galway, Ireland in June 1986. A companion volume, entitled Third International Conference on Minority Languages: General Papers is also published by Multilingual Matters Ltd.
