Biologically active small molecules have increasingly been applied in plant biology to dissect and understand biological systems. This is evident from the frequent use of potent and selective inhibitors of enzymes or other biological processes such as transcription, translation, or protein degradation. In contrast to animal systems, which are nurtured from drug research, the systematic development of novel bioactive small molecules as research tools for plant systems is a largely underexplored research area. This is surprising since bioactive small molecules bear great potential for generating new, powerful tools for dissecting diverse biological processes. In particular, when small molecule...
It’s a dog’s life for a boy when he magically turns into a hound in this classic story from the author of Bambi. On a routine walk through the streets of his hometown of Vienna, Lucas Grassi sees an archduke’s coach. He can’t help but wish he was rich and powerful and leaving the dark city behind. And when he sees the archduke’s faithful dog running alongside, he wishes he could just be the dog and be free from his everyday life. And then his wish comes true: Lucas does become the dog. Every other day he switches from his normal body to that of the archduke’s canine companion. Soon he learns the dog is treated badly and the archduke is not a nice man. Lucas decides he’ll do anything to reverse his wish…if only he knew what to do! Felix Salten’s tale of a wish gone awry is brought back to life in this beautiful repackage.
This book includes extended and revised selected papers from the 10th International Conference on Smart Cities and Green ICT Systems, SMARTGREENS 2021, and 7th International Conference on Vehicle Technology and Intelligent Transport Systems, VEHITS 2021, held as virtual event, in April 28–30, 2021. The conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 crisis. The 22 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 140 submissions. The papers present research on advances and applications in the fields of smart cities, electric vehicles, sustainable computing and communications, energy aware systems and technologies, intelligent vehicle technologies, intelligent transport systems and infrastructure, connected vehicles.
The Editorial Office of Frontiers in Plant Science would like to thank all the Chief Editors, Associate Editors and Review Editors that played an integral part in Frontiers’ innovative Collaborative Peer-Review process in 2020. In particular, we would like to recognize and thank Prof. Joshua L. Heazlewood – our now former Field Chief Editor, for his commitment, support and enthusiasm for the Plant Science field. Josh’s dedication and leadership has helped Frontiers in Plant Science become the most cited journal in the field with a strong editorial community. Looking forward, we’re excited to welcome Prof. Yunde Zhao, as our new Field Chief Editor in 2021. Having been with Frontiers in Plant Science since 2017, Yunde has contributed extensively to the development of the journal and will continue to ensure the journal goes from strength to strength.
