A summary of state-of-the-art research on how the river environment impacts biodiversity, species invasions, population dynamics, and the spread of waterborne disease. Blending laboratory, field and theoretical studies, it is the go-to reference for graduate students and researchers in river ecology, hydrology, and epidemiology.
Complex water problems cannot be resolved by numbers or narratives. Contingent and negotiated approaches are necessary for actionable outcome. In the face of a constantly changing array of interconnected water issues that cross multiple boundaries, the challenge is how to translate solutions that emerge from science and technology into the context of real-world policy and politics. Water Diplomacy in Action addresses this task by synthesizing two emerging ideas––complexity science and negotiation theory––to understand and manage risks and opportunities for an uncertain water future. Rooted in the ideas of complexity science and mutual gains negotiation, this edited volume shows why traditional systems engineering approaches may not work for complex problems, what emerging tools and techniques are needed and how these are used to resolve complex water problems.

FLOWPATH 2019, the 4th National Meeting on Hydrogeology, was held in Milan from 12th to 14th June 2019. According to the aim of the previous Editions of FLOWPATH, held in Bologna (2012), Viterbo (2014) and Cagliari (2017), the conference is an opportunity for Italian hydrogeologists to exchange ideas and knowledge on different groundwater issues. The objectives of the conference are:– To promote dialogue and exchange of scientific knowledge among young hydrogeologists;– To deepen the theoretical and practical aspects of our understanding on groundwater;– To update all the stakeholders, researchers and professionals on recent challenges in the hydrogeological sciences;– To encourage re...

Working extensively as both artist and scientist, Aldo Giorgini (1934-1994) was one of the first computer artists to combine software writing with early printing technologies. His innovative process involved producing pen-plotted drawings that were embellished by painting, drawing, photography, and screen printing. This biography is the first to uncover the remarkable work and life of an underappreciated artist, providing insights into the innovative methods and computerized techniques he used to weave creations that seamlessly combined technological sophistication with artistic sensibility.Buried manuscripts, documentation, and art taken directly from Giorgini's former studio in Indiana hav...
