A History of Bristol Medical School

This book is a well-referenced history of medicine and medical teaching in Bristol, with material on the development of individual hospitals and other providers of health care throughout the 18th to 21st centuries, and on teaching from the 16th century onwards. More material has been explored and included than previous histories on this topic, largely due to the accessibility of material on the internet, and the willingness of individuals to have their work digitised and made available. This book details the origins and development of the Bristol Medical School, from its beginnings to the present day. Of necessity, there is overlap and inclusion with the development of other educational institutions, some that succeeded (the University of the West of England) and some that did not (the Bristol College).

Slow Northumberland and Durham

Northumbria is home to the loneliest stretches of moorland and coast in the country. The region has much to offer the nature lover, walking enthusiast, history buff, gastronome and gardener: rare wildlife, Georgian architecture, the Pennine hills, Hadrian's Wall, Alnwick Gardens and Alnwick Castle, featured in the Harry Potter films. Gemma Hall shares her love of Northumberland, Durham and Tyneside, guiding visitors through historic towns, cities and villages; across the Cheviot Hills and along Northumberland's Heritage Coast; to outdoor swimming spots, high altitude flower meadows and the wooded gorges of the Durham coast.

Playwrights for Tomorrow

Playwrights for Tomorrow was first published in 1967. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. Five writers are represented in this third volume of a series of collections of plays by dramatists who have participated in an experimental program conducted at the University of Minnesota by the Office for Advanced Drama Research. Dr. Arthur H. Ballet, editor of the series, is the director of the program. The plays in this volume are Five Easy Payments by John Lewin, Where Is de Queen? by Jean-Claude van Itallie, The Great Git-Away by Romeo Muller, With Malice Aforethought by John Stranack, and I, Elizabeth Otis, Being of Sound Mind by Philip Barber. As Dr. Ballet explains in his introduction, the program of the Office for Advanced Drama Research provides a testing ground for promising playwrights by giving them a chance to have their plays actually produced. Publication of the plays makes them available to larger audiences and to further critical appraisal.

Marriages of Sumner County, Tennessee, 1787-1838

The marriages abstracted here derive instead from original bonds and unrecorded licenses found amongst loose papers in the Sumner County courthouse in Gallatin. As is customary in such publications, the marriages are arranged in alphabetical order by the surname of the groom. The bride-to-be, the date of the bond or license, and the names of ministers, witnesses, and bondsmen make up the balance of each entry. Virtually every entry gives the name of at least one bondsman (usually a relative), and all persons mentioned in the entry except the groom, minister, or J.P. are indexed.
