The first major work in English on Mathias Goeritz (1915-1990), this book illuminates the artist's pivotal role within the landscape of twentieth-century modernism. Goeritz became recognized as an abstract sculptor after arriving in Mexico from Germany by way of Spain in 1949. His call to integrate abstract forms into civic and religious architecture, outlined in his "Emotional Architecture" manifesto, had a transformative impact on midcentury Mexican art and design. The present research work is based on original manuscripts and testimonies from architect González Gortázar (b. Mexico) regarding his transcendent architecture and urban designs. González Gortázar is considered at present one of the most important architects of México, creator of spaces and urban art that are now geometric symbols and references of the city of Guadalajara in México. The architect strongly practices the concept of "Space and Art" and where the city should never loose their social function for which it was originally conceived and constructed.

The present book graphically documents the architectural intervention of the former 19th century penitentiary building and now transformed in to the Art Center Centenario in the city of San Luis Potosí. The wining team lead by architect Alejandro Sánchez and integrated by a interdisciplinary collective presented their architectural project in an innovative way: a scale model created by wirrrika (huichol) artists in their traditional weaving technique and a project designed following 2 main concepts: the suitableness of the spaces and the restoration of the building. The new cultural space offers courses, workshops and graduate classes in stage arts, visual arts, literature, music, dance, new technologies, popular art and crafts. Includes a library, a book shop, a museum, an open air theater and other services.
