Maurice Sendak greeted the publication of the first book by this unique author-and-artist team with an astonishing review in The New York Times Book Review, which began: "Sid and Sol is a wonder--a picture book that heralds a hopeful, healthy flicker of life in what is becoming a creatively exhausted genre. The magic rests in teh seamless bond of Arthur Yorinks's and Richard Egielski's deft and exciting collaboration." Sendak concluded his review with an enthusiastic "Welcom, Mr. Yorinks and Mr. Egielski!" Now Louis the Fish, their second picture book, not only fulfills the promise of the first, but amply surpasses it. Louis is a butcher. He has a nice shop on Flatbush, with steady customers...

Arthur Ransome on Fishing

Arthur Ransome began to fish as a boy in the Lake District, but the pursuit became almost an obsession when he lived in Russia during World War I and reported the Revolution and its aftermath for the Daily News and the Manchester Guardian. When he returned to England with Trotsky's secretary as his wife, he settled in Lakeland and began his four-year weekly column Rod and Line for the Guardian, stopping only to write the twelve Swallows and Amazons books for children which made him famous. Although he published a few of these and other fishing essays in two books, Rod and Line and Mainly about Fishing, most of his writing and broadcasting on the subject has never appeared in book form.

The 508Th Connection

Summary of The 508th Connection by Zig Boroughs When I arrived home after my army discharge in 1945, the challenges of adult civilian life excited me tremendously. I passionately anticipated living as a husband and father, no longer separated by the Atlantic Ocean and a dangerous war from my wife and child. I eagerly plunged into active civilian employment, impatient to establish a career of peaceful service to humanity. Although the experiences and feelings of World War II affected by attitudes and ideals, my energies were so devoted to other interests, the memories of the war years were pushed into an inactive part of my brain. For many years I thought very little about the 508th Parachute...

Arthur's Inheritance: How He Conquered

"WELL, I've done it, and if there should be a row, you girls must help me to get out of it with the Mater." The speaker was a tall, well-grown lad about fifteen. His two sisters might have been a year older and a year younger, judging by their looks. They were both sewing, but dropped their work as the lad seated himself at the opposite side of the table. "Oh, Arthur! What have you been doing now?" asked the elder sister, with something like a sigh. "What's this latest scrape, you bad boy?" said the other, shaking her head and yet looking affectionately at her brother. "Humph! Bad boy!" repeated Arthur. "That has to be proved, Miss Molly." "Well, tell us what you have done, that we may judge...
