Kavram tarihi ile şiir kuramının, kanon tartışması ile edebiyat tarihinin iç içe geçtiği bir kitap İmgenin İcadı. Daha önce İmkânsız Özerklik’te modernist şiirin estetik dirençle karşılanmasının tarihsel nedenlerini inceleyen Yalçın Armağan, bu kitapta, İkinci Yeni’ye gösterilen direncin zaman içinde nasıl kırıldığını, başlangıçta “anlamsız” bulunan şiirlerin “imgeci şiir” adıyla nasıl kabul gördüğünü ele alıyor. 1952 ile 1983 arasında şiir alanındaki hayli tartışmalı döneme odaklanarak, imgeyi tanımlamanın değil; imge kavramının nasıl ortaya çıktığının, bu kavrama niçin ihtiyaç duyulduğunun, “Şiir imge sanatıdır” önermesini Nmeşrulaştırmak için hangi argümanların ileri sürüldüğünün peşine düşüyor. İmgenin İcadı, İkinci Yeni’yi imge kavramının dönüşümü açısından yorumlayarak alternatif bir şiir tarihi sunduğu gibi, edebiyat kurumunu analiz etmek için bir yöntem de öneriyor.
