Analysis of Controlled Dynamical Systems

The conference "Analysis of Controlled Dynamical Systems" was held in July 1990 at the University of LYON FRANCE. About hundred participants attended this conference which lasted four days : There were 50 speakers from departments of Engineering and Mathematics in east and west Europe, USA and USSR. The general subject of the conference was system theory. The main topics were optimal control, structure and control of nonlinear systems, stabilization and observers, differential algebra and systems theory, nonlinear aspects of Hoc theory, rigid and flexible mechanical systems, nonlinear analysis of signals. We are indebted to the scientific committee John BAILLIEUL, Michel FLIESS, Bronislaw JA...

Advanced Topics in Control Systems Theory

This book includes selected contributions by lecturers at the third annual Formation d’Automatique de Paris. It provides a well-integrated synthesis of the latest thinking in nonlinear optimal control, observer design, stability analysis and structural properties of linear systems, without the need for an exhaustive literature review. The internationally known contributors to this volume represent many of the most reputable control centers in Europe.

Honoring Andrei Agrachev's 60th birthday, this volume presents recent advances in the interaction between Geometric Control Theory and sub-Riemannian geometry. On the one hand, Geometric Control Theory used the differential geometric and Lie algebraic language for studying controllability, motion planning, stabilizability and optimality for control systems. The geometric approach turned out to be fruitful in applications to robotics, vision modeling, mathematical physics etc. On the other hand, Riemannian geometry and its generalizations, such as sub-Riemannian, Finslerian geometry etc., have been actively adopting methods developed in the scope of geometric control. Application of these methods has led to important results regarding geometry of sub-Riemannian spaces, regularity of sub-Riemannian distances, properties of the group of diffeomorphisms of sub-Riemannian manifolds, local geometry and equivalence of distributions and sub-Riemannian structures, regularity of the Hausdorff volume, etc.

Control and Nonlinearity

This book presents methods to study the controllability and the stabilization of nonlinear control systems in finite and infinite dimensions. The emphasis is put on specific phenomena due to nonlinearities. In particular, many examples are given where nonlinearities turn out to be essential to get controllability or stabilization. Various methods are presented to study the controllability or to construct stabilizing feedback laws. The power of these methods is illustrated by numerous examples coming from such areas as celestial mechanics, fluid mechanics, and quantum mechanics. The book is addressed to graduate students in mathematics or control theory, and to mathematicians or engineers with an interest in nonlinear control systems governed by ordinary or partial differential equations.

This constitutes the Proceedings of the 22nd IFIP TC7 Conference held in July 2005, in Torino, Italy, and dedicated to Camillo Possio, on the 60th anniversary of his death during the last air raid over Torino. The papers in this volume concern primarily stochastic and distributed systems, their control/optimization, and inverse problems. These proceedings also explore applications of optimization techniques and computational methods in fields such as medicine, biology and economics.

Contemporary Trends In Nonlinear Geometric Control Theory And Its Applications

Mathematical control theory has evolved from the study of practical problems in engineering and sciences to the elaboration of deep, important concepts in mathematics and applied sciences. This volume concerns contemporary trends in nonlinear geometric control theory and its applications. It is a fine collection of papers presenting new results, relevant open problems, and important applications regarding academic and real-world problems. The book is dedicated to Velimir Jurdjevic whose scientific activity has been influential in the research of many of the authors. It contains a number of articles specially written by colleagues and friends of Vel Jurdjevic, all of them leading applied mathematicians and control theorists. There is also place for surveys on topics of current research which present the state of the art of modern geometric control theory. Finally, the volume contains several new mathematical ideas generated by geometric control theory techniques, which may initiate new directions of research beyond control theory.

This is the second of a series of IFAC Workshops initiated in 2000. The first one chaired and organized by Profs. N. Leonard and R. Ortega, was held in Princeton in March 2000. This proceedings volume looks at the role-played by Lagrangian and Hamiltonian methods in disciplines such as classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, fluid dynamics, electrodynamics, celestial mechanics and how such methods can be practically applied in the control community. *Presents and illustrates new approaches to nonlinear control that exploit the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian structure of the system to be controlled *Highlights the important role of Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Structures as design methods

Singular Trajectories and their Role in Control Theory

The role of singular trajectories in control theory is analysed in this volume that contains about 60 exercieses and problems. A section is devoted to the applications of singular trajectories to the optimisation of batch reactors. The theoretical paart based on the Martinet case concerns the singulatrity analysis of singular trajectories in sub-Riemannian geometry. An algorithm is gibven to evaluate conjugate points and a final chapter discusses open problems. The volume will interest mathematicians and engineers.

This book presents recent advances in space and celestial mechanics, with a focus on the N-body problem and astrodynamics, and explores the development and application of computational techniques in both areas. It highlights the design of space transfers with various modes of propulsion, like solar sailing and low-thrust transfers between libration point orbits, as well as a broad range of targets and applications, like rendezvous with near Earth objects. Additionally, it includes contributions on the non-integrability properties of the collinear three- and four-body problem, and on general conditions for the existence of stable, minimum energy configurations in the full N-body problem. A valuable resource for physicists and mathematicians with research interests in celestial mechanics, astrodynamics and optimal control as applied to space transfers, as well as for professionals and companies in the industry.
