The Practical Real-Time Enterprise
The basic idea of the real-time enterprise is to become quicker. A business which wants to become a real-time enterprise has to acquire three main abilities: - Internal and external data is integrated quickly and in real time in a well-organized company data pool, - Analyses of information in the company data pool can be obtained in real time, across function boundaries and at the touch of a button, - The number of working steps performed in batch mode is shifting dramatically in favor of immediate completion in real time. The issue of communications - or real-time communications - plays a special role here. Studies have shown that processing times sometimes double when necessary communication events are handled in batch mode in the business process and not in real time. In other words, when an activity cannot be completed and lies around for days because an urgently needed partner cannot be contacted. The necessity of acquiring these three abilities has implications for the process-related, technical and organizational aspects of a business that are dealt with in detail in this book.

Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science
This volume gives the proceedings of WG '90, the 16th in a series of workshops. The aim of the workshop series is to contribute to integration in computer science by applying graph-theoretic concepts. The workshops are unusual in that they combine theoretical aspects with practice and applications. The volume is organized into sections on: - Graph algorithms and complexity, - VLSI layout, - Multiprocessor systems and concurrency, - Computational geometry, - Graphs, languages and databases, - Graph grammars. The volume contains revised versions of nearly all the papers presented at the workshop. Several papers take the form of preliminary reports on ongoing research.
Mathematics of Ramsey Theory
One of the important areas of contemporary combinatorics is Ramsey theory. Ramsey theory is basically the study of structure preserved under partitions. The general philosophy is reflected by its interdisciplinary character. The ideas of Ramsey theory are shared by logicians, set theorists and combinatorists, and have been successfully applied in other branches of mathematics. The whole subject is quickly developing and has some new and unexpected applications in areas as remote as functional analysis and theoretical computer science. This book is a homogeneous collection of research and survey articles by leading specialists. It surveys recent activity in this diverse subject and brings the reader up to the boundary of present knowledge. It covers virtually all main approaches to the subject and suggests various problems for individual research.
Graphs and Order
This volume contains the accounts of the principal survey papers presented at GRAPHS and ORDER, held at Banff, Canada from May 18 to May 31, 1984. This conference was supported by grants from the N.A.T.O. Advanced Study Institute programme, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the University of Calgary. We are grateful for all of this considerable support. Almost fifty years ago the first Symposium on Lattice Theory was held in Charlottesville, U.S.A. On that occasion the principal lectures were delivered by G. Birkhoff, O. Ore and M.H. Stone. In those days the theory of ordered sets was thought to be a vigorous relative of group theory. Some twenty-five years ago the Symposium on Partially Ordered Sets and Lattice Theory was held in Monterey, U.S.A. Among the principal speakers at that meeting were R.P. Dilworth, B. Jonsson, A. Tarski and G. Birkhoff. Lattice theory had turned inward: it was concerned primarily with problems about lattices themselves. As a matter of fact the problems that were then posed have, by now, in many instances, been completely solved.
