Europe's Crisis
It is striking that since 2008 the European economic, employment and financial crisis has been repeatedly in the limelight of German and European media. Up to date the topic has not lost any of its importance. This is not the least due to the fact that the crisis has led to several conflicts in the political, economic and societal sphere. This volume offers an interdisciplinary approach on the conflicts related to the European crisis. The economic, political scientist, sociological and legal perspectives provide a novel analysis on the emergence of the crisis and its dynamics on member state and European level. In addition, the contributions provide insights into the various implications of the crisis for the future of European integration and shed light on potential remedies. The book draws on a broad variety of economic, social scientist and legal methods, which allows for a comprehensive analysis. It will be of great value to scientists, practitioners and the interested public.
Financial Issues of a Universal Basic Income (UBI)
The first annual FRIBIS conference in October 2021 aimed to take into account the growing economic interest in financial issues in basic income research. After all, research on Unconditional Basic Income is significantly influenced by this development of monetary policy issues and, in turn, contributes just as influentially to the discussion. In addition to the economically focused main sessions, the two-day conference also included parallel sessions of other FRIBIS teams, in which prominent guests of the basic income discourse presented and discussed together with the interdisciplinary and international teams and members of FRIBIS. Bernhard Neumärker is Professor of Economic Policy and Director of the Götz Werner Professorship for Economic Policy and New Ordoliberalism at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. In 2019, he founded the Freiburg Institute for Basic Income Studies (FRIBIS) for interfaculty and interdisciplinary research on Unconditional Basic Income in a network of six institutes of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg.
A Contractarian View on Homann's Ethical Approach
Homann's method is a sophisticated theoretical model. As a result, it contains a normative foundation upon which Homann bases his endeavor, as well as numerous conclusions following his positive analysis. We propose extensions to both the normative and positive aspects of Homann's theory in this article. On a normative basis, we recommend taking into account our approach of New Ordoliberalism. In addition to the prisoner's dilemma, we consider the moral dilemma of the hawk-dove game on a positive footing. Additionally, we also present an experimental design.
Care & Gender – Potentials & Risks of Universal Basic Income (UBI)
The third annual FRIBIS conference in October 2023 centered its discussions on two previously underrepresented subjects in the Basic Income debate: care and gender. By focusing on these topics, the conference highlighted the importance of exploring basic income through an intersectional feminist lens, particularly addressing issues of care, the care economy, and the division of labor.
