Respiratory Epidemiology
Over the last decade, the volume of research into the pathophysiology and genetics of pulmonary diseases has increased greatly. This has led to the development of new treatments and therapies for many diseases, including lung cancer, asthma and cystic fibrosis. This issue of the ERS Monograph comprehensively demonstrates the developments in respiratory medicine in recent years. It outlines the importance of epidemiology in respiratory medicine, and will prove a methodological tool that will help disease management. The European Lung White Book
The European Lung White Book was officially launched on 25 November 2003 at the European Parliament in Brussels and was produced in conjunction with the European Lung Foundation (ELF).It is a 200-page report which includes data on the causes, means of prevention and treatment for a wide range of respiratory diseases, as well as epidemiological data collected from the 51 countries of the WHO Europe region.The European Lung White Book also details, for the first time, the financial impact of respiratory disease in Europe and highlights the requirements to improve both research and patient care. An entire section is dedicated to training, teaching and research in respiratory medicine across Europe.
