The Fortean Research Center was founded in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1982. During the two decades of its existence, this volunteer group of researchers and investigators delved deep into the unexplained. Exploring events in Nebraska - and far beyond -that included ghosts, UFOs, Bigfoot encounters, animal mutilations, government cover-ups, alleged alien abductions, psychic phenomena, cult activity, and even a sighting of a blob-like mystery creature the Fortean Research Center became recognized among members of the Fortean, paranormal, and UFO research communities around the world, as a reliable and trusted source of information. Here is the entire collection of the Journal of the Fortean Research Center, 23 issues in all. These publications are a reflection of their time, and demonstrate in many cases the beginning steps into subjects familiar to the public today: alleged UFO crashes and landings at government installations, alien abductions, cryptozoology and more.
Ben Collins was an aspiring race horse jockey. He was of small stature, and the young horses did not notice his weight that much. His family owned a large Arabian horse farm in Cheohee Valley, In Tamassee S.C. Ben met Raven Hawkins, a half Cherokee girl from Cherokee, North Carolina, the Indian reservation. Her dad was the Indian agent and her mother was full blooded Cherokee. Raven was visiting her great grandmother, Miss Essie, for the summer. She anticipated a dull summer there, until she met Ben on his Arabian Stallion. Ben asked her to go trail riding the next week, and this started the most exciting summer she had ever encountered. Horse racing, catching crooks, and the love of her life, all made for an exciting summer.
Long before the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants brought the major leagues to California in 1958, professional baseball thrived on the West Coast in the form of the Pacific Coast League (PCL). Minor only in name, the league featured intense rivalries, a huge fan base, and such future Hall of Famers as Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. The Los Angeles Angels won 14 PCL pennants and stood as the league's premier franchise. This year-by-year chronicle of the Los Angeles Angels from 1903 to 1957 includes an overview of the PCL and a wealth of statistical information, including an all-time player roster, a list of important team records, lineups, and attendance information. Based in part on personal interviews with former Angels players, this history offers a nostalgic look back at the PCL and the early days of baseball in the West.
