This is the story of Brian Kirk, a young 22-year-old North Yorkshire lad who went on to serve as a Spitfire Pilot with No.74 (F) 'Tiger' Squadron during the Battle of Britain.Sgt Kirk was shot down over Maidstone on 20th October 1940, his Spitfire, P7370, crashed at Coxheath, and although he had managed to bale out he was severely wounded during the combat with Me 109's. He was admitted to Preston Hall Hospital but unfortunately, succumb to his injuries and died on 22nd July 1941. He is buried in St Oswald's churchyard, East Harlsey, Yorkshire.
